low beams don't work but high beams do???
anyone ever run into this...
when i turn my headlights on (eg coupe), only the parking lights come on (no low beams). i flick the high beam switch and the high beams work fine. i switch them off and the low beams don't come on.
the funny part is, sometimes if i switch the high beams on and off a bunch of times, eventually the low beams will come on.
i have not done the most logical thing and replaced the bulbs because it seems like the problem is in the switch itself.
anyone encountered this issue yet? it's just really annoying having to high-beam everyone.

yea, my thoughts are it's in the switch. but the bulbs are cheap enough i suppose...i could change them out and see what happens. but when they do work (this started happening a month or so ago...where if i hit the high beam switch once or twice the low beams would come on...
and it has descended to now...where i could sit there for 5 minutes switching the high beam switch on and off and the low beams will never come on.

update...
so i had another headlight bulb and i switched it out...low beams still do not work.
it seems like something in the switch on the steering column must have broke/worn out? there's only one fuse for the headlights...1 bulb that switches btwn high and low so it couldn't be a fuse...?
someone out there must have had an issue like this...

Re: (b20guy)
that's what im thinking...it's a contact in the switch that went bad or needs to be cleaned. blah...i guess i'll take the thing apart.
it's kind of like my power window switch...one of the contacts got dirty and the switch for my pass window won't work. i've cleaned it, tried to fix it, still doesn't work.
gah!!!

Yeah but he says intermittantly the low beams work, which would tell me that intermittantly he has power to the low beams, and the ground is probably good since the low beam and high beam probably share the same ground (per side). That would at least rule out fuses and bulbs. Next thing to check would be the switch. Especially if he can play with the switch and it comes on...

Re: low beams don't work but high beams do??? (all stock)
i have a similar problem i need advice on how to fix. ill be driving at night on the back roads with my highbeams on and when i see a car i flick on my low beams and the headlights shut off completely or sometimes they will get dim and a little bit brighter then dim and then turn completely off. This happens only when i flick to low beams and its happend once when i was crusing with my low beams already on. Do the highbeams and low beams share the same ground? Also when they go completely out ill flick the highbeam back on then back to the low beams and it works again. odd?
