LOUD whirring sound
I've had this really loud whr-whr-whr sound for several months. It happens only when I move, and it increases with acceleration and changes according to what kind of road I'm on. I have 16" Konigs with Yoko Parada Spec II tires. They're balanced, and I even had a bent control arm replaced and the two back tires replaced, no difference. My friend's car (mines 99, his is 00, otherwise no difference) that's totally stock has no such sound. Is this rim/tire related?
Thanks..
Thanks..

Re: LOUD whirring sound (parasonic)
Does it do it in neutral or just in gear? Almost sounds like it could be transmission related.
Oh yeah, some tires are just loud.

Re: LOUD whirring sound (Ricey McRicerton)
Clutch in, neutral, same thing. It's definitely not tranny related. The tranny has problems of its own (pilot bearing grinding sound in or out of gear with any revs)

Re: LOUD whirring sound (parasonic)
Sounds like it could be a tire noise, or possibly a wheel bearing. I had a similar noise in my EL when I bought it about a month ago. I thought it might be a wheel bearing, but I put the wheels and tires on it from my other car and they were quiet. I had cheap *** tires on it before, and they were badly cupped. Try putting your stock wheels back on and taking it for a drive.

Probably a wheel bearing. Try rotating tires to see if the source of the noise changes, and/or swapping on a different set of tires to try and eliminate them as a possibility.

Re: (NstyGrnHatch)
I figured that it would probably be the tires. I don't like the noise, but I wouldn't give up the grip that I get with them. They're sticky and expensive.
