Lost VTEC I lose VTEC at high RPMs in 3rd or 4th gear WTF? Any help?
Hello all, I've been trying to find some relevant searches for this for some time now: When I'm pushin my car 92 Hatch w/ a B16A2 in 3rd gear - right around 7700-8000, my check engine light comes on and my VTEC cuts out on me. Does this sound like an oil pressure problem? Perhaps an ECU problem? Everything seems to be working very well with my ECU but I'm stumped.
If anyone could help, it would be appreciated.

any check engine lights???? sounds like a knock sensor issue. had the same exact thing happen to me.

well if the CEL comes on you need to start there with pulling out the code. just for ***** and giggles, check your oil level too.

yea this happened to me on my d16y8, I had pretty low oil, and my CEL kept coming on after about 5,000 rpms and I wouldn't be able to engage VTEC after that point. I think it has to do with your knock sensor. Get it checked. bring it to Honda and they will plug it in and see what code it is. They will tell you what's wrong with it. And check your oil too!

my friend was losing vtec in 3rd gear around 6500 oil pressure sensor and water temp sensor codes.. fixed the water temp sensor its fine now... it could be something like that because if something goes bad while ur in vtec.. like the water temp or speed sensor it will show that code and also a vtec code like 21 or 22 solenoid or oil pressure just because it was in vtec and well the way i think is it needs a reason to shut it off
