Lost HP on dyno... HELP.
I got my car tunned by norris about 8 months ago. i got 180 whp w/ 151 tq.. i sprayed nitrous for about 2 months with out tunning it.. refilled the 10 lbs bottle twice..ok i went to the dyno today and it only put out 150 whp w. 130 tq.. it threw out black smoke in low rpm and in top end at about 7000 rpm it threw out white smoke. might i have fried the piston rings? i did a compression test and i got 175, 174, 170, 175.. does that seen right? what else could have gone bad?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Dynos aren't meant to be compared unless you're frequenting the same dyno with the same weather conditions. Many people make great numbers on DynoJet's but if they were to go to a Mustang dyno, the numbers would be much lower...
Did you go to the same dyno both times?

its a bone stock h22 lol.. i think i learned my lesson not to spray anymore.. but the oil looks normal.. it does burn a little bit of oil.. and i changed my sparkplugs on the dyno to make shure that wasnt the reason why it wasnt getting any power but it didnt work lol.. by the time i got home ( 30 min drive) the spark plugs were charcole black!

"OOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
But seriously, you might want to do a leakdown test, it will be a lot better at letting you know whats going on than a compression test. It sounds like you piston rings are getting a little old and worn.

Thats not nessesarily true.

I'll tell you right now, spraying on any stock h22 is bad unless you have it tuned right with a small shot of nitrous. Seeing as you ran (in other words) 20lbs of nitrous through a stock h22 while leaving it untuned should pretty much tell you where your at. I know this isn't new information to you, but h22s aren't exactly as robust or reliable as their b-series brothers unless you build them. If I had a nickel for every time i've seen an h22 leaking oil, burning oil, burning coolant, or grinding gears i'd be rich. Let this be a lesson to you, tune your **** and don't try to squeeze 300hp out of a stock head and block for a prolonged time.

I wouldnt attribute everything to the nitrous UNLESS it was an untuned shot that may have leaned out and gradually wore out the piston rings. As for the rebuild, are you planning to build or just overbore and rebuild using stock parts??

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that this is your culprit. You probably experienced abnormal combustion and something was damaged internally. As stated, see if you can perform a leakdown test.

yea ima take the heade to get a pressuer test and leakdown test.. im just gonna put some high comp. pistons in their if the cilinderwalls werent damaged.

if your motor wasnt already apart i would say to do a leakdown test before a rebuild. sounds like a tune issue to me.
nitrous isnt to blame in my opinion. unless you had a crazy tune with alot of extra timing and leaned out fuel trims. or you were spraying a 75+ shot.

it was only 75 wet shot... but my car was running rich as shyt when i wsa spraing it.. i got my car tunned with out a fuel pump .. then i put the fule pump in so it ran rich n i still retarded the timing... so i really doubt that the nitroua would be a problem..i think he ran it too lean on the dyno n finished it of their.. after he told me me motor was hurt he still kept on redlining the shyt out my motor to try n get power... sound fishy

Too much unburn fuel. Could be bad compression or bad tuning.

I don't think so. Sounds like whoever ran the wet shot didn't have it jetted right and was dumping more gas(black smoke) than nitrous into the cylinders washing the oil off the cylinder walls(white smoke), causing your compression to get weak. Check to make sure you still have some cross-hatch on the cylinder walls. Oh yeah, and slap the **** out of whoever tuned your car. Redlining it after a smoke session? Was he trying to blow up your **** or what?

Re: Lost HP on dyno... HELP. (King V)
Well Id say the shady tuner and the un-tuned spray sessions could be to blame. Also how many miles are on the motor? Since youve had it have you driven it hard? Overtime **** takes a tole on the engine. Revs kill the motor as does untuned nitrous sprays and a horrible tuner.

Your tuner blew two other guys motors while you were there!?! OMG, I would have turned right back where I came from.
Rip it apart and tell us what happened! GL!
