Lost fuel pressure...maybe? Help!

So my car has no other issues except this. Any time the gas cap comes off, It takes me like 45 seconds of cranking for it to start. It seems as if I may be losing pressure or something. I have a walboro fuel pump and I think its working good.

There is no fluxuation in fuel pressure at the rail, however this only happens if I take the cap off and refill. The car can sit for 2 weeks without issues but when the cap comes off I get stuck cranking... Anyone ever had a problem like this? The only real problem is, I look like a jerk cranking my car forever at the pump. Any other time it starts right up, no issues.

Man there's a sensor on the back of the block that I once had go bad and I had completely lost fuel pressure, but I can't remember what it was called if it comes to me I'll let you know, but if you know which one I'm talkin about definently check that out.

Re: Lost fuel pressure...maybe?

well i only have the problem when I re-fuel. Other than that it's good. It's like starting a car that just ran completely out of gas.

You might just wanna think about getting a new gas cap. I'm shootin in the dark with this one, but I'd try getting a 2.00 cap before I started trouble-shooting with sensors and regulators.

Re: Lost fuel pressure...maybe?

Cap seems fine. The system is still pressurized when I open the cap. I guess it seems as if it just takes forever to get pressure after re-capped. Maybe my fuel pump? The car runs strong all the time though...I dunno. Any help appreciated.

whenever i fill my car above 3/4, it barely wants to crank over (b20b). when it does it'll bubble in the rev's from 250 - 500rpm then i give it some gas to wake it up!! other than that its fine. haha ive just learned to never fill it above 3/4 so i dont sit there ****ing with the ignition.

Thats what mine does except on any fill. Even if I just take the cap off and then put it back on... Anyone else had this problem? Anyone know how to fix it...My car has enough character....

does it do it if you just take the gas cap off but don't refuel. When did it start doing this. Was it abrupt or is it getting worse.

pop the cap off, put it back on, and cycle the key to ignition (prime the fuel pump) about 5 times, then try to start car...

did it fire right up?

Thanks, Worked fine. Does this mean my fuel pump sucks? It's a walboro unit almost 6 months old.

did it happen out of the blue, or did it follow something?

Out of the blue, just got gas one day and had to crank forever...what are you getting at?(Not being rude, just want to know what variables your running through your head cuzz i'm lost)

CHECK THE FUEL PUMP FUSE UNDER UR STEERING WHEEL ITS A 15 MABEY IF U PUT A LIKE NUMBER 20 FUSE IT WILL GO AWAY THAT WAT MY CAR DID AND I CHANGE IT AND I DONT HAVE ANY PROBLEM IF NOT IT MIGHT BE THE SENSOR IN THE BLOCK THATS WAT I THINK

MHDesigns 10-14-2009 01:01 AM

Re: Lost fuel pressure...maybe? Help!

What sensor on the block? Anyone got a name for this so called sensor?

Re: Lost fuel pressure...maybe? Help!

I can't think of any sensors on the block that would have anything to do with fuel.

Knock, Oil, Coolant...

I'm only guessing, but it could be a leak in the EVAP system. Purge control or vent.

FOR THE WIN! Purge line was cracked. New line and it's fixed. Thank you very much everyone for the help.

Nice call R666_EK. I didn't have any good ideas on this one.
