LOSS OF POWER, 96 LX AUTO STOCK
I'm trying to help a friend with a problem. The vehicle has an occasional loss of power. The transmission is fine. It is showing a P0420 code for the catalytic converter, but this has been showing for some time with no issues with regards to power until recently. Spark is strong and consistent with all cylinders. Injectors are getting signal and a noticeable power loss occurs when unplugging injectors individually while the car is running. Compression is consistent among all cylinders. The vehicle idles fine. Sometimes the power is there and sometimes it is not. It was falling on its face while I was driving it and I put the trans to neutral and tried to rev it. It was slow to the 6,000 or so red line. It's as though I'm losing a cylinder, but I have none of the cylinders showing problems. The owner has also advised the fuel consumption/mileage is less than before, but I suspect this goes hand in hand with the current problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: LOSS OF POWER, 96 LX AUTO STOCK (RIZOBIZERT)
Catalytic converter problems will put it into lean mode. For me, I think I had the same code, and it had something to do with the Oxygen sensors. I have a DX, so it's a D16y7 and I just had to replace the O2 sensor before the cat converter.
Bump for more suggestions ??!?!

I was just advised by my friend that the fuel tank was just filled. The gas station was out of 91 and 93 octane. She put regular in it, which is fine, but it leads me to believe she got some potentially contaminated fuel (water in the gas). I told her to run it as dry as she can, put a fuel additive in it and fill her with 93.

Re: LOSS OF POWER, 96 LX AUTO STOCK (RIZOBIZERT)
I fixed this some time ago, but I'm updating this post should other members need help. It turns out that a chunk of converter material broke free and was interfering with the exhaust flow. The car would idle fine, but upon applying throttle the car would fall on it's face. I cleaned out the converter for now and all is well, except for the CEL due to the lack of a converter. Honda actually has a warranty on this part and replacement is in the near future.
