losing oil, no visible leaks!
I have a 96 honda civic hatchback with the stock y7 motor. i recently got all the front seals replaced as well as the timing belt but i'm still losing oil. i've been using quaker state 5w30 for summer and quaker state 5w30 full synthetic for the winter season.
my car has 220,000 km's, my friend said it could be the rings, or could just be the valve seals. when i rev the car over 5k it smokes whitish/grey. my coolant doesn't seem to be milky at all, and doesn't overheat.
what could be the problem?

Iv e had the same prob with my 1994 civic. i was told that all hondas tend to burn oil but if it is smoking white its too much. you might want to have your rings checked. i think that is your prob. hope you find a solution to your prob

Bump up to non-synthetic 10-30 or 10-40 Valvoline, or similar. Also, install a new PCV valve those usually will help.

it usually takes around 2-3 weeks before the oil reaches the lower dot.
where is the PCV valve located on these cars?!

Well I was lookin for how many miles it takes to loose a quart? They say if you loose 1qt per 1,000 miles its time for a rebuild. Well mine looses about that but my compression is still high but I know what cylinder is burning the most oil. On your car the PCV valve sits right above the oil filter. There is a little black box and its right there. My PCV valve hadnt been changed in like 3-4 years and I replaced it myself and the oil consumption did not change. If your car has an odd idle then check you PCV valve, you should replace it just for ***** if it hasnt been changed in awhile.

white smoke = head gasket? er **** he has good compression. my d16 burns oil a lot i lose about a quart a month or so i'd have to say. i don't really follow up on it i just add a lil now and then. although i don't have white smoke.
also this is kind of stupid but i dunno sometimes people forget. when its cold outside cars have visible exhaust until warm.
i've been told its my valve seals but i dunno i am no mechanic. maybe when i get my helms manual i can read up on some of this ****.

i would say take off the intake manifold if you want the easiest way to change it. although taking off the manifold can eat up a little more time than you might want to spend. and make sure you get a new gasket for the manifold if you do that, cost about 10 bucks.

just do a compression test and leak down. that will tell you if your rings are bad or not. If you drive hard then you are going to burn oil

yea most likely the valve seals and/or rings are shot, most oil made today is semi synthetic and if you have that many miles i recomend that you use the high mileage oil thats out there there is stuff in it to help your valve seals to help it from loosing alot of oil. I used to sell all types of automotive fluids and i just read up on all that info when i did.
