loosing coolent at the resver tank???
hi guys,
im from asia and had been visiting this forum for some time..
driving a 92civic 4dr D16Z6
currntly facing the problem of loosing coolent from the coolent reserve tank, no leak can be found on the radiator, change all hoses and steel pipe at the back of the lower block, using 1.1 bar cap, no white smoke, temp stay normal at all time.
loses coolent about 1cm within 3-4days.
could it be the water pump??
wat could be the problem???
hope to get some tips from all the pros here.
thks a million

Re: loosing coolent at the resver tank??? (blackcom)
one possibility is excess gasses in the coolant system; IF there is no obvious hole/crack in the res., then picture this: Pistons pumping via little, well-controlled explosions. Kinda has a lot of pressure, na? Well, now imagine the plumbing of the water/glycerine mixture moving between the engine, hoses, and radiator. Mix the two and it has to go SOMEWHERE... a head gasket that is supposed to make them play happy together might have a hairline that allows them to mix... (pump pump) or a slight seperation of molecules in the aluminum head between a cylinder and the plumbing channel... (pump pump)
It's a quick check for a REAL service shop to sniff at the radiator cap for hydrocarbons with an exhaust gas analyzer; exhaust in the coolant? oops, time for a tear down, or an ad in CarZ R Us, "mechanics special" take this care, pleez...
This is just one possibility, so...
Good luck~!

When I had this problem it turned out to be a loose hose(bottom on the radiator) I just tightened the clamp and everything was good.

check all of your hoses and clamps, mainly the upper and lower radiator hoses. over time of heating and cooling the clamps can work the way loose since they expand and contract every time you start your engine and shut it off. also check the lines going to your heater core as one of my clamps was loose on there and i lost a bunch of coolant. if your burning coolant you will be able to tell by white/grey smoke coming out the exhaust and it will smell sweet. good luck finding it, i know leaks can suck.

Re: (blackcom)
are there drips under the car? Is it spraying out of the overflow tank or just disapperaring?
When did this start?
cant find any leak under and the enigne is clean, no smoke, no spraying out of the overflow tank, oil and coolent colour good.
juz losing coolent from overflow tank over days. 1cm by 3-4 days.
cz i juz swap my D15B2 for this D16Z6 6months back and replaced all the hoses and radiator.
what the hell can be wrong???
