Default loose steering wheel????

whats up everyone, my 92 vx has a problem, the steering wheel wiggles almost like its not tight. i would take it all apart and check it out, but im worried about the SRS. i know on the older GMs there a bushing in the column that wears causing the wheel to get loose, is there something similar on the civics, or should i start looking for a whole new column??? Thanks in advance.

the nut might have came loose.Just unhook your battery and take the two torque head bolts loose and remove the bag. There is a 19mm nut.Try to tighten it.If that isn't it,check the four 12mm bolts that hold the column to the dash frame.MAKE SURE YOU UNHOOK YOUR BATTERY BEFORE YOU UNPLUG YOUR AIRBAG OR THE SRS LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE SRS SYSTEM WILL BE DISABLED!!YOU DON"T REALLY HAVE TO UNPLUG THE AIR BAG ONCE YOU HAVE UNBOLTED IT,JUST HOLD IT AWAY ENOUGH TO TIGHTEN THE NUT(IF IT IS LOOSE).

i figured as long as i disconnected the battery it would be fine. i know the column is tight, i can actually wiggle the wheel without wiggling the column. its annoying.

its either going to be the nut that holds the steering whele on or the bolts on the joint that connect your steering column to the steering rack. depends on what your definition of "wiggle" is. either way checking either will not affect your srs so long as you dont turn your car on with your airbag not attached.

thanks for all the input. when i say wiggle, i mean i can actually wiggle the wheel up down side to side like 1/4". if it were the joint between the rack and column the steering wheel wouldnt wiggle, it would be tight, but the steering would feel loose, this is actually just the wheel itself wiggling.

ah yes indeed. its going to be the nut that holds the wheel to the shaft. just pop your airbag off and tighten it down.
