Re: loose shifter (Nader_D)
How much side to side play do you have? If its alot then you might have some bolts that are loose or backing out. You might want to jack up your car and take a look at the bolts that attatch the shiftter bars to your car and make sure both the shifter side bolts are tight and the tranny side bolt and roll pin are in where there supposed to be.

At the end of the shifter are two bearings. After awhile, those bearings could get "loose" so to say and allow for shifter freeplay while engaged. I recommend getting a Revo Technica short shifter.

If the transmission has ever been taken out, the pin that holds the shifter linkage to the transmission may not have been installed properly (or been substituted by a bolt). Get under your car and move the rubber boot out of the way to check this.
If that doesn't work and everything in the linkages and shifter feels tight: you may be able to narrow it down to the shift piece inside the gearbox. That part costs around $100 I believe, but the real hassle is dropping and opening the transmission.
