Default Loose shifter

Hello, One quick question. The shifter in my 93' dx coupe feels weird, it has alot of side to side movement, even when it's in gear what cause's this? I got a b&m shifter w/ energy bushings for xmas, will this solve my problem? Or will I need to buy some other bushing to fix this? I just wanna know so when I change the shifter if I need to do more I can do it then. Thanx.

Yeah, it's the bushings. Mine is a litttle like that too, and it's becauuse I have older rubber bushings where one of the linkage rods attaches to the tranny.

Wait I take that last post back! I was driving down the Interstate last night and my linkage came un-linked from the trannie. I had to pass someone and then I down shifted to 4th, and when I shifted to 5th ( well tried ) I couldn't! I'm going WTF?? my linkage was draggin on the ground. So i pulled over called AAA and towed it back to my house and fixed* it. It looks like the bolt just came out of where one of the rods connects to the trannie to make the shifts.

Now my shifter has A TON of side to side movement. Like, I can put it in 1st and be able to move it side to side ALL THE WAY, like in 5th gear postition and back to 1st position while still being in gear. I don't under stand how to fix this... ANY ONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM?

any help would be appreciated.

thanks!

my $.02. dont use the b&m it will rattle like a ****, its not the installation its the design of it... everyone, including myself, has a problem with this and its annoying as hell. if i were you id return it and buy a different barnd, be happy you have a $50 credit towards something else. youve been warned.

I had this same problem, the answer is simple. you need to find a correct drift pin that goes into the part where the tranny and shift linkage go together. ive seen many people just shove a bolt in there and had this same problem, i got a pin out of another tranny laying around, and the shifter is normal now. the pin must be a tight fit or your shifter will be very sloppy.
