Default Loose Shift Linkage

I just bought a 96 Civic LX 4door and the shift linkage is realy loose.

You know how it feels when you are not in gear? you can move the shifter all around, I can do that in gear as well.

What is wrong and how do i fix it?

Thanks.

Check the rolled pin the holds the shift linkage to the tranny. Sometimes those become very worn, or are not replaced at all. I have seen them with bolts through them, creating lots of slop.

does it have a gay ebay shifter in it? if it does I would say the bearing in the cheap shifter is shot especially in NY where they see rust
