lookng into buying an 99 civic si
i am looking into buying a 1999 honda civic si. The car has a rebuilt title though. The car has some nice motegi wheels, and oem vis carbon hood, springs, and a greddy evo 2 exhaust. He is asking $7500 for the car. THe car is very clean inside and out. Is it a really bad idea to buy a rebuilt title, and if something were to happen to my car would insurance pay out different? anything helps, thanks.

Re: lookng into buying an 99 civic si (stuie08)
I once bought a civic with reabuilt titled. the car extra clean there was virtualy nothing wrong with it. i drove the car about 2 years then i got in a wreck and the car was totaled. the blue book value of the car was $6,500 the insurance company was giving me close to $6,300 for it. once i gave them the tittled and they saw that it was a Rebuilt title the only gave 65% of the $6,300 it came out to be close to $4,00 dollars.
Also you will have ahard time trying to finance the car unless you take a personal loan.

one thing you might want to consider doing is going with a good alarm system. EM1's get rolled left and right. My little bros em1 almost got rolled but his DEI alarm saved his ***...

Offer a lower price part it out...that's what I'd do cause they (the 99-00 Si) just get stolen way too much for me to drive it as a whole car. Or just turn it into spare parts for a NASA/SCCA race car. I dunno. If it were me i'd turn every Si part of it into DX civic stuff...and make it as stock as possible but even then it'd still get stolen or be a target. Sucks that bone stock civics of any year are likely to get stolen compared to a Ford Focus, for example.

Nobody can tell you that except for your insurance company - give them a call. Everyone has a different policy, and some providers handle reconstructed titles differently than other providers.
Just for reference, $7500 for that vehicle is an awful ripoff. I sold a bone stock '00 Si - with a clean title and 80,000 miles - over a year ago for only $8900. You can do a lot better than only $1400 less than what I gave mine away for . . .

the only reason I say that is because everyone I knew (it was 3 people granted (red, blue and black in color), but all 3? I suppose there's a common correlation and link to all three thefts...) that had an Si here where I live (think stockton, modesto, manteca and tracy and surrounding areas) has had their Si either broken into multiple times (he was even parked in his garage) or stolen. I personally wouldn't feel safe with an Si knowing that all the people I knew got theirs stolen/broken into. And the people who did it knew what they were looknig for; the Si isn't a hard apple to spot in the bunch. Otherthan that, yes, it'd be stupid and/or retarded.

I owned a retina-searing blue one with a big wing and tinted windows for over 3 years, and nobody ever gave the car so much as a second glance.
I don't discourage people from buying cars due to fear of theft. I do, however, discourage people from buying the EM1 because it is a shitty car. I also discourage extensive useless appearance modifications, which attract theives (in addition to looking tacky).

Im sure diffrent areas have diffrent theft rates. But when you live in a county were the a car is stolen every 30 minutes and has more car thefts than the whole state of VA then you can only think of MDs PG County. I love Si Rims but I dont get them because im sure it will just target me car for theft. Steelies FTW!
