Default looking for a technical answer about a sensor question

ok i am wondering what the difference between a "sender" and a "sensor" are? i tried looking up sender in wikipedia and feel this is a retarded question so thats y i am posting it here instead of asking someone in real life. =D does anybody know the answer?

don't really know, but I would guess a sendor would be like a one wire sensor like for your oil light, that just transmits a signal one way, to kick on your oil light on your dash, theres no info sent else where to correct anything, cuz you couldn't, in this situation, a knock sensor may be another example, again a one wire sensor, that sends info one way.
