Looking for some real answers JDM EG
I'm looking to buy a JDM EG6. I need to know if I can register this car and if so how difficult is it? If I can't drive it on the street now and then whats the point. Thanks

I really don't know about the legalization of a jspec car in the US. I think you should be asking yourself why you want a RHD car for? Whats the point?

like he said above , the salvage title is about the only way to pull it off . there's a few things that dont meet american saftey standards on japanese cars so its either change them or salvage title

Theres a way. ive seen a skyline here in NY with NY plates on it. All though Motorex does all the paper work for it, its possible.
From what ive read (was in a post last week), you must change all the windows, and make the motor capable of passing emmissions and of course inspection.
I have also seen that you can import a car for "show" or "race" only but it cant be registered.
Let us know if you find out anything.

it took me 6 months to register mine, going through all the inspection and all that. but it's really a simple process if you know what you what you are doing. are you talking about steve taylor? if so, yea he's had that for years, i mean years. he can also vouch for me registering my civic.

Why not?
RHD=Authentic, Original, Japanese-designed-AND-built, Honda.
But yeah, it can be done. I would do it if I could afford it. I heard it's expensive. Paperwork, emissions crap, safety laws, etc. But I live in SD, CA (CA-home of some of the worst emissions laws) and there are at least two authentic JDM RHD Nissan Skylines (R32, R33) in the neighborhood.

Re: Looking for some real answers JDM EG (tjsEG6)
There are modifications i think you have to make, like the glass has to be replaced or somrthing like that, and it has to meet basic smog inspection! It shouldn't be as hard as lets say a skyline.... Very smog unfriendly! It would take some dough... You may look into poss just getting a salvaged jdm car from over there! That way it doesn't have to pass emissions or anything, then when you get it running, you can register it as a foriegn vehicle and pass it that way!

In nevada you have to get all of the work done by a states mechanic, cant do the work yourself, change all glass, change lights cause JDM lights have no reflecors, somehing to do with wiring the corners different put in the brace up front for saftey. And a couple more things here and there. I have one for sale completly 100% legal no vin swap and title. Email me if you are interested.

Well, I think since the civic is sold here, I think maybe some impact resistance might be one. such as in the doors/rear.
Emissions is a big deal, Alot of the SCCA rally guys have rhd evos and had to get them thru customs.
I think the EPA and DOT have to do an inspection along with your State Patrol have to do an inspection as well.
I believe crash test results might not be needed. (Motorex has crash tests).
You can find some info on the net.
these are a few things I was told/looked into. Might not apply for a civic.

Re: (Solo2Vtec)
just rgister it as a collectors car, either that or register it as a normal civic. go to a junkyard and yoink a vin plate. that is if you dont want to do it the entirely legal way.

most of the guys in auto x or rally have these cars as off road cars.
dont do the vin swap, you can get in serious trouble.
if you have the money to get a JDM civic, ship it over here, and go through all the tests, thats kool.
if not, just get a front clip and convert it, that way you can keep you vin have the rhd and have the cool motor as well.
i was looking to get my friend's wrecked Nissan Cefiro over here. But there was more problems that solutions for it. One cause they dont sell the cefiro here.

I am not sure about the fact that its JDM RHD but I just bought a '04 Jeep Wrangler and in the brochure it says you can order a RHD Jeep. I would go to a Jeep dealer and find out how you can register it being RHD. Just my $.02
