looking for a motor
 

i was going to get a 97+ ITR motor, but they are a little pricey for me.

So my next option was to get a USDM GSR motor, but as long as i was tossing ideas around i was thinking that i could maybe just build the motor myself, instead of buying it complete. so my next plan was to get a b16a with a CTR head, CTR pistons, and maybe a thinner head gasket? what kind of power gains could i expect from this kind of set-up? i was expecting the compressiong to be around 11 or so. Do you think this is about right?

I would look into the GSR motor. You could also do the "poor man's type R" and get a GSR bottom end with a b16 head... Many different options.. I personally would save up for a USDM B1C5 swap. or you can go GSR b18c with ctr piston, brings your compression to around 13:2 i believe. also add ctr cams. do a search lots of people runing the same set up. Ive been running the same set up in my hatch with the gsr motor for bout couple months now, runs strong ass hell! ive beating b18c5 hatches with ease. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

but the thing is i intend on keeping the motor "stock" for the most part, without going crazy with internals and such. because i will keep this motor for 2-3 years, and go onto a bigger project ( k20a ). Right now im just looking for nothing too serious. at best i would want 175-185 WHPi know the c5 is around that range. but i can get a complete b16a swap for 1400, and i figure i can get the CTR head for 6-800, install myself, and make it pretty quick for under 2500. while a b18c5 at hmotorsonline is still up at 4500? i want to get something in my car right now, because my 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears are dying. my first grinds sometimes when i put it when ( while stopped ) and 2nd grinds all the time, and pops out. and 3rd grinds going in...

how many miles you got on that tranny w/ the grinds?

B16A uses the PR3 head. this is the same head as the B16B (CTR and ITR are actually PR3-02). There is NO reason for you to use a diffrent head. The only difference is a mild port and polish (like the ITR). Using the CTR pistons, and a 2 layer gasket will give you appox. 11.1:1 compression. You really won't notice much difference from the higher compression without cams and other items. If you are going to go this route, the best bet for you to also get a chipped ECU, bigger throttle body, and a nice flowing header. That is really the only way you will notice a big increase over the baseline of the stock B16A.

i know, by CTR head, i meant with all the b16b parts with it. i know the b16a and the b16b and the b18c5 all use the PR3 head. i was planning on getting a p28 chipped, a simple little ebay knockoff intake, and maybe a DC header.
