Default Looking At Civics

I'm looking for a Civic EK. In your opinion, how many miles are too many? Also, what models (EX, HX, etc) should I be looking for? I wanted an SI, but they seem to be all salvage title.

no miles are too many unless its grossly uncared for. look under the oil cap with a flashlight to see if the internals are bronzed, pretty good indication of non-routine oil changes. look for leaks.

go to edmunds.com and find out which trim you want. ex is the only "real vtec" for the sixth gen single cams.

I wouldnt recommend getting a used si unless you know the seller personally. These things are almost always going to be pushed hard for much of their lives.

do you want a hatch or a coupe? I didn't think they made the EK with EX options in the U.S.

if you are planning on a swap then i wouldnt get an SI. it all depends on what you are planning on doing, and how much you have to spend. if you want it to race then a DX would be good because it is lighter and only has PS. if it is for a DD then an EX would be nice because of the Power options. also consider wether you want a coupe or a hatch.

Ah, thanks. I've wondered how to check if that's been properly maintained.

I'm looking for a coupe, not so much a fan of the hatchbacks. Yes, it would be a DD.

Anything else I should check for? (I'm going to look at a couple tomorrow.)

Stupid thieves stole my Integra.

EG's are 92-95 hatches, EK's are JDM 96-00 hatches.

Though they're widely generalized as "EG" standing for ALL 92-95 civics and "EK" standing for ALL 96-00 civics. Even though that's incorrect as it's only for the hatches, a lot of people generalize it so. People often refer to any 96-00 vehicle (except the 99/00 Si which is commonly referred to by the correct chassis code (EM1)), especially hatches as "EK's" though since the EK's are JDM it doesn't usually prove true there as the majorities are USDM.

Just generalizations, you'll get a lot further if you just refer to 'em as year/model/trim
Example:
'96 Civic DX hatch

sorry to steal your topic but, when you refer to beating your car, how bad of a beating?

like overrevving it? always redlining? pushing the maximum power out of it?

I almost never beat on my car. I love it too much i guess. The only time it see 5500 and above is to avoid possible collisions or when the guy in front of me is driving 20 mph

i just love my open pipe, no muffler! it makes me car growl and my v-tec scream 10 times louder than stock, and when i mean beat, i mean letting it red line past the 8 just a little then seeing the tack drop back around 6ish and doing it all again! LOL thats what a beat is!
