Default Logic Motorsports OMNI POWER TACH PRODUCT REVIEW WITH DIY INSTALL!!

Just got my Omni Power plug n play tach from Logicmotorsports.com. When I heard about the release on the Logic facebook page, It looked great and priced right so, now we shall see if it lives up to the hype!

First thing I noticed was the quality of construction. the face is a nice flat black like the stock tachs. The numbers are easy to read and the red line is very visible and looks great with the cool omni logo and I love how the tach starts at 6:00 position, Just like the GTR!! Extra style points for that. I ordered the 9k redline because race car! :-P

Installation was a snap, I removed my stock tach and unscrewed the janky stock tach with 3 screws. the new tach just goes right in without any issues. Uses the same stock screws and make sure not to tighten them down too much. Just snug because I'm told its fragile and not meant to be torqued down too tight. So, be careful guys. No gorilla gripping those tiny screws! Install took less then 5 mins!!

Looking at the back of the unit it's clearly a well designed and built piece. The programming I'm told by Logic, will work with D, B, F, H series as well as K series! This is also a big plus for me because I plan to go K next.

After installation there is nothing else that needs to be done. I noticed the new Omni tach looks great and functions very accurately.

So, now the scary part.....My new omni tach displayed my 9000 rpm shift. When the stock tach was showing 9700 rpm when hitting the rev limiter set at 9k!! So that means when I was shifting at 9k on my stock tach I wasn't even really taking my car to the redline and not getting the full performance out of my engine. Im glad I found such an affordable easy to install product that really helps me to see what RPM Im actually shifting at not causing me to lose power from short shifting or hurting my engine by over revving.

I appreciate Devin and the guys at Logic Motorsports for putting up with all my questions. I'm tired of dealing with immature and uneducated people that are rude, avoid your calls, pms, and give horrible customer service. If you guys want to deal with an honest shop who actually know how to run a successful automotive business, Then give Logic a call. (760) 475 0387 ask for Devin.

DIY INSTALL

-TOOLS NEEDED- 1 flat head screwdriver, and 1 philips head screwdriver.

1) First you need to remove the black plastic nipple from the trip reset, it will just pull off by hand.

2) Take your flat head screwdriver and carefully push the tabs through so you can separate the cluster. There are a total of 6 tabs, 3 on the top and 3 on the bottom.

3) Heres what it will look like once you've separated the cluster.

4) Next you will take your Philips head screwdriver, and you will remove the 3 screws holding the tach in, located on the back of your gauge cluster.

5) Once you've removed all 3 screws your stock tach will come right out.

6) Heres a pic of the Omni tach and stock tach side by side.

7) Next you will just install it the same way you took the stock one out. Set the tach in the gauge cluster and line up the 3 screw holes on the tach to the holes in the back of the gauge cluster, and re install your 3 screws. Be careful not over tighten the screws.

8) Take the front plastic piece of the cluster and put it over the trip reset while lining up the 6 tabs and push it together until the tabs snap into place. It should go on very easy, dont force it. Make sure to re install the black plastic nipple for trip re set so you dont lose it. Then you will have your finished product.

9) And last step. Re install cluster to car then GO AND HAVE SOME FUN!!

Thank you very much Randy for the kind words and great DIY writeup!!

@grumble those are all very nice set ups, but this is a much more cost effective set up with easier install for those looking for something accurate without going through all the trouble of one of those.

i wonder how you install the said 4" defi... i would hate to cut up my oem JDM eg6 cluster and not be able to complete the task... I am great with swaps but when it comes to d series and interior customization i am not the one you want doing it.

The Defi tachs are not reliable. We've had issues with them bouncing around and customers complaining about it. They make great gauges but the tachs are no bueno.

People have been saying the same thing about defi tachs for years...

I got one of these in my hatch. My factory tach was only reading 7200 when in fact I was reving to 8900 (My set redline).

The accuracy of omni tach was dead on with what the dyno software was reading when I had it on the dyno as well.

I like how it's a pretty subtle mod as well in that most people wont even notice it. I really like it.

I had no idea it had a lifetime warranty. Even more awesome.

This would still use the factory bulbs to light up correct?

i have had the omni tach for over a month now. MUCH more accurate in the higher RPM's than the factory one.

only gripes are the color/clarity of the numbers isn't the same quality of the OE part. also does not light up as brightly as the rest of the cluster (no burned out bulbs). does some wierd buzz/wiggle when the ignition is first turned on. and it sits a little "crooked" if you really look at it compared to the speedo...

overall, still a good product. nice upgrade.

If it works on USDM does that mean it also works for CDM? Also, how does this work? It doesn't look like the tachometer unit actually is hooking up to anything. No wires, sensors, or anything. I really don't understand how these gauge clusters work...
