Locked only set of keys in car....
Anyone know an easy way to get into my car, 98 civic lx.... Locked only set of keys in car in a hurry to get into school. They are still in the ignition, im thinking about the coat hanger and wood wedge trick, but still debating on an easier way. This may sound stupid, but is there a way to reset the electric door locks to unlock by doing something electrically in the engine bay? I hit a deer last week so I can get under my hood without popping it VIA in car. I know nothing about my civic, so looking for ideas.. thanks

break rear window, then file insurance claim??
but seriously, a coat hanger should work if you can get a big enough opening

Yeah, I told a friend to bring a wood wedge and some hangers to try it out, but Ive never really became good at doing it.
Also, the insurance claim way, I only have basic liabilty insurance, not full coverage.

Go to the dealer with your vehicle registration and ID. They will make another key for you while u wait. Then, two things will happen: A. You can get into your car. B. You will have another key for when this happens again. Cost is a few dollars, and less than a tow truck with a slim jim. Or, a replacement window.
Two things: 1. Hopefully, your registration is not in your car, even though it probably should be. Maybe you have another copy indoors? Otherwise, go to the DMV for another copy. Should be able to print one for you on the spot. 2. Hopefully you live in an urban area... public transportation is your friend. Rural folk will have to borrow wheels.

EASY...you have to think like a theif.
i locked keys in my car one time at the junk yard.
i used a screwdriver and pulled the window back, so i had enough gap to stick a wrench in to hit the lock switch.

Re: Locked only set of keys in car....
Actually you should never keep your registration the car. Keep it in your wallet.
Why? Your car gets stolen, and they get pulled over. Sir, can I see your license AND registration. Open glove box, no registration. The thief is now screwed and they will not let him drive away.
Atleast like that in my state. So the lesson here, keep your registration in your wallet.
I hope you get into your car. Maybe see if you can buy an inflatable bladder. Same idea as the wood block.

thats y you would copy it, and leave the real one at home, that way if you lose your wallet all you have to do is make another copy

Hangers are sometimes too flimsy, I used a long weld stick to flick the door lock. You can buy them at home depot.

eh just call any 24/7 locksmith. they used some kind of master key to get into any car. did it with mine. took like 5 seconds. cost me 50 bucks. i'd rather pay the 50 bucks then sit there for a couple hours with a damn coat hanger and screwdriver while simultaneously screaming obscenities at people passing by.

If you know someone with a civic(might have to be 96-98 in your case) borrow their key and try to open your door with it,but move it around clock wise and counter clock wise and maybe out and in a little bit to get the tumblers in the right place(experiment with moving it around fast and slow).
That sometimes works, same principle as a auto jiggler

Re: Locked only set of keys in car....
this just happened to me saturday. called 3 dealerships the 3rd one said just bring your registration. i said its in the car can i bring my title. they said sure just bring ur title and drivers lisence. 20 minute drive to the dealer 15 minutes later 2 keys made for 9.50 a piece. probly could have saved and got one made at lowes or home depot but i just figure i do it right there. got 2 og honda keys.
i figure'd this is less painless then trying to break into your own car and risk damaging it. either way good luck

Re: Locked only set of keys in car....
If your key is worn down due to age and has a simple cut pattern to it alot of times it will work on other cars. As far as Hondas go they have been using the same style key from late 80s until like the late 90s early 00s. Chances are that one of your friends with an older Honda/Acura keys would probably work on your driver door. My old 94 teg key opened up my friends 04 RSX and my girls brothers 94 teg.

breaking into a honda is not hard... why do you think they are one of the most stolen cars in the US? you need something to wedge the door open, a hanger and a light to see. been there done that.
