Default A little help please. Car won't start

We installed a new head on it last night. The car is a '93 civic si With the dz16 sohc motor. We pulled the old head off, threw the new one on. New head gasket and intake manifold gasket. Everything was put back just as it came off. Now the car will turn over. But wont start. It kind of runs if you hold the gas down while trying to start it. Every once in a while it will pop/backfire. When it is running it is just barely. It's almost like the timing is off..... way off. Any help is appreciated.

How would I set the timing with out the engine running? I have played with the positioning of the distrubitor. And am in the middle of realigning the cam gear.

did you make ABSOLUTELY sure that the crankshaft was set at the appropriate mark on the correct stroke?
and that the camshaft was also on the correct stroke?

I hope you had a manual w/ you if you have never done this before. it's not a matter of bolt on, bolt off.

I do have a lot of expirence with this stuff. I did go off the manual still. Number 1 piston was at top dead center, while the cam gear was up. One thing I was a little worried about was the fact that I bought an aftermarket head. (gude) With the cam, port & polish all that good stuff. I get the head in the mail, it's wrapped in a towel and bubble wrap the arm that holds the top of the distrubitor was broken off. Then in one of his e-mails after I had already paid for it he tells me it "may" need a valve job. And yeah there is a bad tick while the motor is turning over. Ive spent 3 days on this so far. One big headache. I'm about to tow it to honda and let em deal with it

sounds like you installed it right.

I think you have the answer in your last post..."may need a valve job" if your valves are either leaking, or off in timing...you are not gonna get it started...I would get gude to pay for it as well.

I didnt buy it from gude "big mistake" I bought it off of some schmuck on thepartstrader.com. He still owes me money blah blah blah. Spent 540.00 on it paid 90 to have it shipped second day fed ex, even though he sent it USPS ground. Altogether it's been a bad expirence. Never have I had problems buying stuff of the net before. Basically I feel like I have been ripped off. It's gonna cost a lot for the valve job needed.

Hey this is even better. The valve seat was bad. At least 2 bent valves. and now a hole through the piston.... Nice huh? This really sucks.....But it looks like its time for the b16.
