A little help for the holidays please? (Speedo Issue - 93 Civic)
(93 civic dx 5 speed no mods)
Stock speedo went out, ok so i buy new vss no problem right? no. Ok then its gotta be the cluster itself nope x2 gauge cluster plus stock ( btw both new ones have rpms stock does not, rpms work on both all other gauge acc. work)
I assume maybe a faulty vss nope again.
So i took it to the honda dealer to check wiring, its all good and visually looks good as well.
So I then just ordered the complete vss which i just right now replaced, i mean the actual vss cam and gear assembly that plugs into the transmission. Yet again nothing... i'm at my wits end with this, I really need it in order to register it to pass smog ect. (cali laws) I dont know if its somthing as simple as more tranny fluid to help or a new tranny, i mean is it something as simple as a fuse cuz ive checked i havent seen one specifically for the speedo/vss/cluster ect. does the cam and shaft need to be fully submerged in transmission fluid? These are the things I dont want to do and end up spending more money and time on this car.

If the vss has been changed with the full assembly then you are fine there
Fluid level does not affect it, but you should have 2 qts in your manual Trans.
I'm leaning towards wiring issue. Check the wires at the vss connector for breakage.
If that doesn't work I'm sure ronj has some handy wiring diagrams available.

Check your fuses too. I once had a problem with my speedometer and it ended up leading to one of my fuses under the dash. I forgot which one it was though.
