Yeah, I had looked into a high comp B20 with a LS trans (almost bought a complete swap from a guy back in the summer), but I feel like I would need to drive a car with an LS trans and then compare it to the GSR. I don't have any basis for comparison as far as which would better suit me. My commute is under 20 miles, and mostly 50-60mph unless I take the highway, then it's 65-70 for about the same distance. I don't take the car on any road trips but definitely appreciate the 35+ mpg. Honestly I think I might be okay with the GSR trans. Who knows, we'll see.

Really, I'm at the mercy of the engineer who inspected our septic system at the other house. There's a pretty strong possibility that we're going to be stuck with a $10k-15k bill to fix the issues. Either way, everything is on hold.

Alright, so I think I've finally decided which route I'm going to take. I would love to swap in a high comp B20, but for simplicity's sake, I'm going with the B18B1. I've already got a motor/trans picked out at JEI here in Virginia.I have sourced all the required parts, and I've already purchased the necessary brackets (SI T-bracket and driver's side post mount). With the B20, I'd have to swap the IM, purchase different mount brackets, a different starter, etc. Like I said, I'm going for simplicity, so the LS is the way to go. One day, I'll try to find a GSR trans in need of work, rebuild it and swap it in, but for now I think the LS setup will do fine since my car is 99% highway-driven.

Stay tuned, kids! It's about to get interesting!

Yeah...LS trans isn't the way to go. It will be boring. But it is what is is.

Yeah, I'm fine with that... with this particular car lol

Besides, if I run the LS trans for a while and end up finding a deal on a solid GSR, I can drop a trans in no time. I was able to drop my old S20 in around an hour by myself. And the B isn't much different. *shrug*

So, this happened, awesomely... Some mouth-breather at work decided he didn't like how my front-end looked and rearranged it for me. I stuck the bumper in the back and drove her home. I guess I know where I'm going this weekend. PickAPart, anyone?

Damn that sucks.. I hate how **** like that happens and they just roll out. Wasn't an SUV though or else your hood would've been fucked up. Also make sure you get that foam piece that goes behind the bumper. Don't drive w/o it bro.

Well, the guy came and got me when it happened. He was decent about it and said he would pay for whatever parts it needed to be right. So I'll go get a bumper and a couple other things and give him a bill. Looks like I'll need the little supports that bolt under the headlight too; he bent the driver side all to hell. The foam piece only had the driver side corner broken off, but I'll still get a new one just because.

That styrofoam piece is the 5 MPH bumper, does nothing in a collision. It is only there to keep insurance cost down for bumper benders.

So on my last trip to the local scrap yard, I found a relatively rust-free rear bumper beam and yesterday I decided it was a good time to replace mine. Before I could even get all the bolts out, this happens! On the new one, I made sure to put a generous helping of rustoleum on it.

Well, I figure I'll put an update on this one too. Nothing really to report right now... The car has performed flawlessly ever since I bought it. I'm still dailying her and she just ticked over 141k miles. I couldn't ask for a better car.

Somewhere down the road, I'll be looking into an OBD2 LS or B20 swap just for a little more giddyup, but not anytime soon. I still need to fix my AC, though.

Good afternoon everybody! I just realized it’s been over a year since I updated this thread. This has become less of a build thread and more of a “maintain this ****** as long as possible” thread. Oh well. Recently, I overhauled the entire suspension. I added Koni Yellows and Tein S Tech springs, new front control arms, upper and lower, ball joints, tie rods, etc. On the rear, I snapped off both lower control arm bolts and one of the upper camber link bolt. I also had to cut off a few more bolts as the bushings had seized. Nothing a little Metabo can’t handle! I also replaced the trailing arm bushings, toe links and upper camber arms (adjustable). While taking things apart, the rear brake hardware crumbled in my hands so I replaced everything there with new stuff. As far as reliability goes, this baby continues to run flawlessly at just over 151k miles.
I’m currently in the midst of replacing the oil pan gasket and I’m giving the pan a fresh paint job while I’m at it. I’m still trying to find god damn center caps that fit these Rotas. I’ve tried an assortment of aftermarket and OEM caps, but nothing fits these Slips.

Excuse me, sir; the rust is fixed. It just needs to be painted. And paint is expensive. The original plan was to have Maaco paint the car, but that's like $2K. I'll probably just dip it sometime this fall. I'm not super worried about how the car looks, as long as it gets me to work every day.

Nice! Car looks great.

I just did all the bushing and rear brakes in my DD, too. Hell of a project.
