Default lil sumtin i tried today...

ok, so i was tired of my intake (generic - short ram tube with blitz filter) since it has gotten really really cold around these parts...i live in Oregon and with the rain and cold, i figured id put my intake back to stock for now...

right when i swapped the stock air box (just the tube along with upper resonator box chamber thing...what ever youi want to call it, back on my car (98 civic ex) i could feel a little bump in low end torque...at least thats what it felt like. But the high rpm's just felt like the engine was out of breathe, so i was at a dilemma. Even though i dont romp on it too much for everyday driving...i was kinda dissapointed with how the stock airbox felt driving. I did want to retain the maybe added 1 or 2 ft/lbs over my intake tube, but want the top to breathe better.

so i went to Baxter's auto (local parts dealer) and bought a drop-in K&N filter for the stock box, and when i got home, cut the bottom part of the box out with a hack saw. The bottom of the air box's plastic is right where the filter sits. the reason for doing this was to get rid of the tiny little rubber hole where air is sucked through in the stock system. So now, there is no bottom section to the system, nor is there a restrictive bottom plastic piece...just the drop in filter...but still surrounded enough by the plastic for somewhat protection...

I must say, you can still feel the minute (sp? mie-noot) amount of torque while being able to rev the thing freely without any feel of lagginess. The car idles perfect, unlike the intake system i had, and cold starts idle fine too.

i just thought id share my lil' find with you all...im sure this wont change anyones days, nor will i get many props for being creative or anything like that...but o well. honestly though, for those who like revving their single cam slammers but want perfect drivability, you should try it. it worked good for me

That's interesting. I have never had any problems with any intake setups on my car (I've gone through about 4 or 5 different types ). I've only noticed differences in my low-end and high-end with different exhaust systems.
