Lights pulse, speedo jumps...anyone?
I searched and found something similar which I pasted below, but I have already tried what people recommended as responses to no avail.
My car sat for a few weeks and ever since then the electrical system pulses...And I mean all of it; headlights, a/c lights, dome light, and even my check engine light. Even the blower motor pulses. At times the transmission will not shift correctly like there is not enough voltage to tell it to shift (auto). Any ideas as to what would cause this? I already changed the alternator and the problem persists. Another strange thing...the speedometer jumps anywhere from 0 to 120 even at a constant speed.

Just so people know I have been working on Hondas for approx. 10 years, and I know them in and out. I wouldn't post if it was something simple lke an alternator. My parents own a garage with all of the tools necessary to diagnose OBD2 vehicles like this one, so I have tried just about everything. I am looking for someone who has had a similar experience to save me time, but if not I will dig even deeper tonight. Please think a little deeper and read my whole post before you reply. Thanks!

i had a problem like that before that i encounter on my bros EK, it turned out to be a opened wire that was conntected to the alternator. its sort of behind the IM you just have to trace that wire from the alternator to the fuse box or something like that i couldnt remeber but i know its somewhere behind the IM or by it. check to see if thats the cause, might be a open or short there...

I would be interested to see what you find out. I have exactly what you described on my 97 Civic. I started with replacing the alternator but that did not solve it.

alternator ftw! trust me. either you replaced it with another shitty one *it happens refurbed ones are not always perfect* or there's a loose wire or bad connection some where.

It was a wire in the harness under the intake manifold. A piece a metal that was supposed to hold a plastic clip in rusted enough to let the wire loom drop down, and rub on the brace that holds up the intake manifold. Typical rusthole around here in NE Pa and the southern tier of NY. Oh well...time to pull it apart!
