Default Lightened stock flywheel vs aftermarket one?

Alright i'm doing a b16A2 swap and i could get the stock flywheel lightened at a machine shop for a good price. I mentioned this to someone and he told me to research it because he's heard it can be dangerous, meaning that it could crack, break and it could fly all over and do serious hard to me,engine etc. He's saying that an aftermarket one is the only way to go. I'm on a budget but if this danger is true i'd invest in the aftermarket one. Any of guys running or used lightened stock flywheels without problems? if the stock one can be lightened and used, how light should i light should i have the shop take it too? thanks in advance, lemme know what to do.

peace
B

i've never heard of a lightened stock one breaking but i am pretty sure it can happen. when u lighten it it makes the flywheel thinner therefore making it more brittle if that s the correct word. I would just get an aftermarket one but if u get on that is too light you wil drop in rpms fast too.

also it will wear much faster, less clutching surface=fast wear=have to take the tranny out again. Get an ACT streetlite flywheel. its 11.2 lbs made of cro-moly, its a little more sturdy than an aluminum and it can be cut for future clutch changes. I have them on 2 of my hondas and i like em

I would listen to your friend, I have seen pics of a destroyed motor from one falling apart at 9,000 RPM's and it was not pretty. The problem is if you lighten it too much or if it is not perfectly balanced you can have problems. I have seen ppl with there's shaved to 12lbs and no problems but you might as well be safe about it and buy an aftermarket one since Honda didn't build the stock ones to be lightened

Just go aftermarket....they aren't expensive.
