lol motorcycle battery. im not sure. i kno for $90 you can probably get an optima one that should be light. also its not that much weight reduction. the best weight reduction you can do is go on a diet.

A light weight battery is a very good weight reduction method. A lot of times it weighs less than a carbon fiber hood and is cheaper.

I don't have as much track racing exp as most of the people on HT, but I can tell u for damn sure, I haven't seen a car race (and probably never will) that is determined by what kind of battery the person has in there...

Why don't you save all your money and all the weight and just don't use a battery. Push start it every morning.

Why do you care about weight reduction when you said it was a daily driver?

Buddy Club sells them, but they are more than $100 so I guess you don't want to spend that much.

I'm using a small light weight battery originally designed for a small CAT forklift.
SURPRISE, SURPRISE...
the cranking amps are high and compariable to your odessey and optimas
believe it or not, you may want to check out a john deer dealer too.
I've found some interesting battery facts there.
Some of the tracktors use small batteries.
I've compared them to both Buddy Club and Spoon batteries and they are the same size. small and light weight at fraction of the cost.

....just something to think about.

Find out the CA that the car needs, and get something that would work from there Im sure a motorcycle battery would work tho. Most batteries are over sized for what they need to be so if there not fully charged they will start your car and so that if you leave the radio or something else on it has a reserve for normally an hr and will still start. From reading your post you obviously dont need that so check to see what your car needs to have to start and go from there.

It's more than that. The battery needs to work in frigid cold conditions like I get up here or even further north. Something Cali people will never have to experiance or worry about, however Honda does. Also when you buy a car or a battery you want it to last a while. Batteries degrade over time. A bigger battery will thus work longer with the same degredation rate as a smaller battery. Say if you have a battery that is twice as big as it needs to be and looses 20% of it's capacity every year it should work for about 5 years. If you get a battery with the same degradation characteristics but that is barely the size it needs to be it might only last a year.

(I always have jumper cables in my trunk just in case. They are also a great way to meet dumb blondes that leave their headlights on )

Cheers!

I am running a Miata battery in my hatch. It's 3/4 the size, fits the tray, tie-down, and terminal clamps perfectly, and it's designed to go in the trunk so relocation is a bolt-on procedure. I've had it for three years and it's never given me an issue. You can probably get one at pepboys for ~$50-$60.

I don't know what mods you have done, but if you have the time, add up all of your electrical draws (amps), then find a battery that will suppport that draw minus what the alternator can provide. It's not a wise idea to engineer a race battery then use it for the street, too many unknowns.

the odyssey battery is recommended on the mustang forums too, so it should work great on a civic. seems a frequent complaint is it has barely any capacity (cant sit around listening to the radio on the battery) and that it might break faster than a normal battery
