Re: lifetime of a carbon fiber hood?
im just sayin, as far as, will debris kicked up on the road chip the clear easily? will the sun fade it easily? and will any car cleaner cause it to fade or whatever?

it should last a decent amount of time, there is a special spray you apply onto the hood that protects it from fading from the UV rays. you could always get the clearcoat redone too

Re: lifetime of a carbon fiber hood?
i it a diy project or must it be done by a professional? will it last 5+ years before the clear starts to go, or are you talking about like an annual re-clearing?

I've only had my vis hood for 2 years, and after moving to maui for the past year it's already faded to ****, and needs reclearing.
im not too pissed about it since i'm about to shoot some fresh paint and clear the hood anyways.

yea, thats my concern. and vis is a reliable brand... id hate to spend 300 on a new hood, then decide on carbon fiber later, when seibon hoods are 485 shipped.

heat is what **** up with the carbon fiber parts.
i've had my carbon fiber hood and trunk since 06. they look brand new just because i rarely drive my car and i keep my car inside a garage. + is never sunny here in WA

than i think "it costs almost as much as the carbon fiber one!"
as far as the clear peeling and getting it respray, do you just sand off the remaining clear? does sand the carbon fiber hurt it? id assume it would, but ive never dealt with carbon fiber[middle class american ftl], hence the debate here.

I had one on my srt-4 back then. I removed my upper heatshield when i went big turbo and my carbon fiber hood faded within 8 months.
