I am looking to get a cluster swap so that I will have a tach in my 1996 CX.
Is it true that Honda will give me paperwork so that the odometer switch can be kept track of? I would hate to see the resale value of my car reduced significantly because there is a non-original cluster, my car is relatively low kms. and I want to keep it that way. Thanks.

Swap out the speedometer portion into the new cluster to retain your odometer. Very simple and it's only 4 screws.

easiest way to do it... and look into the Si cluster.... that's the way I would recomend going.

just find a ex(may be si model in canada) but the 1.6 sohc vtec, redline is about the same, and just find one in the junk yard with near or slightly above the same milage, just let yours catch up to the new cluster, or just adjust the milage in the cluster, i hear its not too hard on 92-5 clusters

its not hard to crack one open and adjust the mileage, i just did it last night in an extra cluster for fun.

Just get a 96-00 ex cluster. You can use the speedo thats in your car now. Thats what I did in my hatch

Thanks for all the advice.

I will look into an Si cluster (Si here in Canada EX I think in the US) or a 1.6EL cluster (because I like how that one is amber). I was told that the EL clusters still fit in ek's because even though the EL is an Acura it is a Civic at heart .

I don't know anything when it comes to clusters or electronics in general, so I have found a diy on swapping the cluster that makes it seem relatively easy, the only thing is-
Does anyone have a diy or could write step by step instructions on how to swap the odometer like BlueIntegraBoy and Eaglekper0046
mentioned, or adjust it in another way like Kevinarich mentioned?

1. Remove the cluster bezel by pushing in the clips on both clusters.
2. Take a Phillip screwdriver and remove the screws on the back of the speedometer gauge.
3. Swap over the speedometers.
4. Screws back the screws and install cluster bezel.

This will change the entire speedometer, correct? Is it possible to only change the odometer without changing the speedometer?

Because if I were to get an EL cluster, the speedometer would look different from my speedometer, it is amber. So does this mean that it is not possible to swap odometer readings between Civic and EL clusters without the speedometer being a different colour?

Yes, my method is swapping both meters. If you just want to swap the odometer (do this on both clusters)...

1. Remove the speedo/odo assembly
2. Get a fork.
3. Stick the fork under the needle and pull straight up to pull off the needle.
4. Unscrew the gauge face by removing the two small screws.
5. Swap gauge faces and screw back the screws
6. Put the cluster in the car without the clear plastic.
7. Start car and place needle back on the pin at 0 KPH.

Contact the DMV and they should provide you will the necessary information and forms to document the odometer readings during the cluster swap.

Thanks for all the information, with a friend I swapped in a cluster with a tach, and swapped speedometers by following BlueIntegraBoy's instructions.

Also, the cluster going in had cruise control so we switched the original CX bezel so that I wouldn't see the cruise control bulb cover in the bottom left corner. And the cluster going in didn't have a 'trunk open' light or bulb cover so we swapped that over from my original cluster. In the end I also got a 'low gas' light too.

This. Or, write down the mileage of your old custer, and the new one. And just substract the difference when you sell the car.
