Default legal swap?

I've searched, but I still have some questions regarding the legalization of swaps. Would it be legal to say, swap a b16a2 (si) into my car? h22 (prelude)? k20a2(rsx-s)? I'm wondering because I want a little more (okay, a lot more) power for my 96 Ex Coupe. And can I run like Hondata and still pass? Thanks for the input

What he said.
Hondata... nope.
Or you can move to the midwest and not have to worry.

Lets hear it for the midwest! Boring as hell sometimes, but you don't have to worry about your car passing any kind of inspection!

If you're in Chula Vista, CA and have a 96' Civic, you will need to stay with the OBD2 setup. If you can buy/install a legit motor that is removed from the same year car or newer, you should have no problems. Also, Southwestern College is where the CA BAR Ref is located at for your part of town.

Also, if Hondata is CARB, then you should have no problems, otherwise you'll need the ecu type that belongs to the motor that you are installing.

or just take your car to http://www.sportcarmotion.com and have them do the swap for you! ask for the Tea Father, aka Loi n' tell him you're from Honda-Tech.
