Default Left turn signal makes CEL lights blink

Ok, so I just replaced the Hazard/Signal Relay which somehow had a hole literally fried through the side of it. The right turn signal seems to work fine now, but the left will not work and when engaged it actually makes the CEL lights on the cluster blink. I have searched high and low on a million forums, and have come up with nothing!!! I have checked every fuse in the entire car, and still nothing. I usually can figure these kind of things out, but this is killing me. I know someone has had this problem before, or at least knows what to do to fix it.

Back to the garage.

My guess is that the cluster got fried along with the hazard relay. Do you have a spare cluster to swap in? Can you borrow one?

I don't have a spare cluster, or hazard switch. I've read that it could be the hazard switch, and I really hope that is the problem. The rest of the cluster works just fine. The only issue is when the left turn signal is engaged. Do you still think it could be the cluster? My money is on the hazard switch, but I couldn't source one today.

Any other ideas? Bad ground somewhere?

A bad hazard switch is an unlikely cause for the blinking CEL because the circuits for the CEL and turn signal light are separate and don't share a ground. The failure of the left turn signal to work could certainly be caused by a bad hazard switch, but this does not explain why the CEL blinks.

Not all of the CEL's blink. For example if the trunk is popped, and the ebrake is on, then those lights will blink to the pattern of the turn signal, and the actuall green turn signal light does not even turn on. Weird, I know, but I'm totally baffled!!!

CEL = Check Engine Light, which reports sensor problems (see my avatar). Does this specific light ever blink when the left blinker is turned on?

My mistake on that, at least now I know what that stands for. To answer your question, No. For example, the SRS light is constantly on due to an aftermarket wheel, so that would be one of the lights that blinks. Whatever lights are lit on the cluster when I put the left signal on are the only lights that blink.

I've messed with Hondas for years, but I guess I haven't spent enough times on sites like this to speak the lingo.

It would help for you to post all of the dash warning lights that blink instead of the left signal light. How many dash warning lights remain lit while you are driving?

The only light that remains on while driving is the SRS light.

So any dash warning light that is on will blink, right? How about the dash back lights and the lights in the heater control panel and radio?

I just went and checked, and yes the climate control and dash lights DO blink when the left turn signal is engaged.

The radio on the other hand does not. That is a whole other issue. It is an RSX base model CD player, and I cannot figure out how to wire the dimmer on the radio.

5th gen Civic, right?

What happens to the cluster lights and dash warning lights when you press the hazard switch button? Do the hazards work? Does the left hazard light in the dash blink?

Yep, 5th gen.

With the key not even in the ignition the right green turn signal ligths up brighter than the left with the hazards on.

With the key turned halfway, and the headlights on, then the dashlights and climate control blink ever so slightly.

Is this starting to look more like a bad Hazard Button? I sure hope it's that easy of a fix.

Possibly, but it also seems like a ground problem.

Test the hazard switch. If it's fine then do the input tests.

Regarding a possible ground problem, I'd focus on G201 and G401 (located behind driver's kick panel).

So the only thing I managed to do today was blow another Hazard Relay!!! I need to find a Hazard Switch to swap out with mind and see if that is the problem.

I checked the grounds and they are fine. The wires on the Hazard Switch get extremely hot when it is left on, and that is how I ended up melting another relay.

I am so frustrated with this. If swapping the switch doesn't work, then I might have to do the most disgusting thing in the world and take it somewhere to get looked at. I really hate doing that.

Don't guess. Get a multimeter to test the switch and to do the input tests.

I'm waiting for my neighbor to get home now so I can borrow his. I lent mine to a "friend" that won't return my calls.

Remove him from friend list.

Post the results of the tests if you want more feedback.

you have a shorted power circuit and check behind the cluster on the printed board for burning or damage, since you said you tried to install an rsx radio id go back and check the wiring, look for wires that are touching each other, wires touching anything metal, different color wires touching,
