Leaking transmission
My transmission leaks from the two tranny halves, and i have no idea why. It was never opened. It has only been doing so lately, ever since i put GM syncromesh with friction modifier, which is full synthetic.
Would the synthetic fluid be the issue because the molecules are smaller and therefore leaking?

Re: Leaking transmission (DeadEnd9009)
i dont know that the reason the tranny is leaking is b/c you are using synthetic, it could be, but i dont have any experience with synthetic so i dont know
my tranny was leaking from the two halves and i was using honda manual tranny fluid so i pulled out my tranny and the gasket was shot. i just used a razor blade and got all of the old gasket off, used some gasket maker and made a new gasket. now my tranny does not leak anymore

Did you need a special tool to take it appart or did it just come off?</TD></TR></TABLE>
are you talking about taking the two tranny pieces apart? if you are then what you have to do is use a 3/4" ratchet and unsrew a circular cover on the end of the tranny (sorry for the explanation, a picture will help u more, try helms manual)
after u have unsrewed this circular cover there will be a snap ring. open the snap ring with a pair of needle nose pliers and the input shaft should drop a little bit. then u should be able to pull the two pieces apart.
before u do the snap ring u need to have removed all the bolts holding the two pieces together and have screw drivers wedged in between the two pieces. ALSO MAKE SURE THAT U HAVE REMOVED THE BACK UP LIGHT SWITCH (u just unsrew it)
i dont know anything about rebuilding the internals of the tranny b/c mine was fine as far as synchros and everything, all i had to do was make a new gasket to make the thing stop leaking. talk to Bense about rebuilding the tranny if that is necessary.
i hope this helps and if u need some pics, PM me and ill see what i can do
good luck
