Leaf Blower Turbo

OK everyone. This may sound a little crazy, but my friend and i have thought up this idea that we could use an electric leaf blower as a turbo. We have it worked out pretty well but there are a lot of potential problems. Would the leaf blower blow too much air into the engine, or not enough? Also, would the leaf blower drain the battery? Here's a diagram we made for his truck that we think would work. Please tell about any potential problems. Good idea or bad idea?

I really don't think a 7.5 AMP Electric Blower would do ANYTHING to the motor as far as giving it more power. I'm thinking you're going to get flamed for this.

BTW, eBay already sells these and don't work. Works just as good as the "fake BOV sound" gimmick.

Re: Leaf Blower Turbo (BigBlob202)

You need to compare the CFM of the blower to the CFM of the NA engine. Odds are the engine already outpaces the blower, which would make the blower a hinderance rather than a source of boost.

I'm sure the leaf blower would be a restriction as high engine rpm's. But whats the point in creating boost with the extra air filter in the system, any pressure you build will leak out of the second filter.

Re: Leaf Blower Turbo (BigBlob202)

What about an electric motor powering a standard turbo blower?

Re: Leaf Blower Turbo (Marauder)

Well we would have a valve in it so that when u turn the leaf blower off, the valve opens to let regular airflow in.

i think if you took a compressor housing from a truboi and hooked up a monster motor it would work but after your all said and done it would still be retarded https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

Re: (Soccerking3000)

The electric motor idea has been tried by even the turbocharger companies. The only way you can make it work is only to spin the turbo to eliminate the spool time. The problem is the speed it takes to turn a blade to create the pressure. I mean a turbocharger spins in excess of 100,000 rpm's.

A blower idea is just https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif

fuck electric leaf blowers, get 10hp gas powered leaf blower and jerry rig it in your engine bay..

turbo boooost hahah

Re: (turbotime)

CFM is what it is about, leaf blower can't supply enough air, maybe on like a 3-cylinder geo metro motor... at idle... but other than that, no.

As for spinnng a real turbo with an electric motor, that wont work either, you wont find a decient sized electric motor that can spin half as fast as you need it to.

EDIT: by the way, you would need a method of closing your backup intake or the compressed air would shoot right out.

People say ROFLMFAO pretty often, but I'm seriously doing just that, I'm laughing my ass off right now, due to the fact that the diagram is so detailed. Best thread ever https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

the flow rate from that blower prob wont be as fast as the intake a WOT

Re: (H22A EG6)

I have seen a electric charger that did work. it was a roots blower with an electric motor bolted to it, it worked well, but the motor required 6 more car batterys and an upgraded alternator. so all that weight my not be worth it.

Now I don't feel near as bad about my jet turbine turbo I wanted to build when I was up too late eating coffee beans.

a little off topic, but i always thought about have some sort of little injector in the turbine housing that would shoot something onto the fins of the turbo to eliminate turbo lag. maybe its already been done?

as for the leaf blower idea, lol.
