Largest tire size on lowered hatch?
Well ive searched but couldnt come to a solid answer to this. I have a 92 cx and it's lowered around 2 inches or so.....my damn car looked jacked up anyway and it still has about 1 1/2" - 2" at the most fender gap. My rims just got here and they are 16x7 with 45 offset. I currently have 185/60/14's (the beasts) on it and was wondering what size i should go to help me rid the car of the fender gap. I was thinking 215/45/16 but i think they will rub...am i correct? I even thought about some 50 series tires but i also thought those might rub. Just wanted to experienced info on this. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks to all

i'd say go with the 205/45...and chop up ur springs a little .... you don't want to throw off your speedo. i'm sitting on some 205/45/16s and it fills up nicely, but then i'm on some chopped eiback prokit... l8rz

Re: Largest tire size on lowered hatch? (dreweg)
I'd go with a 205/40/16 tire for a few reasons.
1) A 205/40/16's overall diameter is actually just a TOUCH smaller than a 185/60/14.
205/40/16 = 22.5"
185/60/14 = 22.9"
This will give you a slight edge in acceleration to compensate for the heavier wheel/tire combo you're putting on. You would lose out a little at top speed though...but I've still gotten my Civic up to 220km/h or 135 mp/h with no problems.
2) A 205/40/16 tire will give you a little bit better of a turn-in steering response because of the lower tire profile. It responds QUICK, even with power steering. Might have to put up with a little bit of a harsher ride, but that's negligable. Also, you might lose out a touch in grip at the extremes vs a 45 series because there's less tire flex...but then again, you could try tuning that with tire pressure.
3) Lower profile = better looking IMO. It'll also give you a little bit more room to work with in terms of suspension tuning because of the shorter overall height -> IE - lower it a bit more if needed.

Re: Largest tire size on lowered hatch? (dreweg)
215's should fit on your hatch...I've seen people run 215/35/18's on their Civics (not sure what offset their wheels are though) with about a 2" drop...I am sure you could fit 215/45/16's in there with about 2" more of fender gap left. I am running 205/45/16's and some Skunk2 coilovers on my '95 EJ and they fit perfect. The 215's wont really help fill the gap as they are only 10mm wider, and maybe 1mm taller than the 205's.

My ride is dropped a lil below 2", on 205/15/50. Rubs the wells in U-turns, but for most daily driving, not a problem.

Damn i was high last night...let me clear up some of he things i was TRYING to say. I think that you should go ahead and buy a clutch so that we can get your engine in and raise some hell. And i meant 205/45/16's not 205/50/15's. I need to stay away from the wacky backy .
