lag while driving...

lag while driving...
ill be cruising and all of a sudden my car will lag for a few seconds, then go back to normal acceleration...this happens constantly...i have a feeling it's my pressure plate...have any ideas??
i posted in the wrong forum...sorry...i meant to post in tech...if mods want to move it...fine by me...sorry
