KYB GR-2 vs. Tokiko Blues
first off, NO i cant buy agx, or teins or anything like that. i have a strict budget. So its down to these 2 shocks. I have skunk2 race lowering springs.
1- Gr-2's ($548.40 CAD w/ taxes)
2- Blues ($544.08 CAD w/ taxes)
what you think?

I've had GR-2's on my EF for aproximatley 1 year paired with Neuspeed race springs, and the car still handles fine. I would bet that the Tokiko's may last longer, and offer more of a performance feel. My EF does ride great for a dropped DD, but for any track useage I would suggest saving more & buying something designed with performance in mind IMHO

IMO Tokicos suck.
The sets I've handled were hellafied soft and rode bouncy because they could not handle the rates they were paired with.
My fiancee's 1992 Si hatchback rides on KYB GR-2s and old school Skunkworks coil-overs:
Rides really nice and has been like that for at least 2 years now. The ride is just now beginning to get *slightly* bouncy, but hell I can't ask for anything more since the struts are over 2 years old handling Skunkworks rates at that kind of a drop too.
KYB = very nice IMO.

i have gr-2's and im happy with them, the only thing is, you have to make sure you pair them up with a good stiff spring, otherwise your head's going to hit the roof from all the bouncing

Hehe...
She's also got a B16A2, rechipped ECU, ACT clutch, AEM intake, DC header, Tanabe Exhaust, AEM cam gears, etc.

Re: KYB GR-2 vs. Tokiko Blues (Nader_D)
i would go with the GR-2, but try to save a little bit more money to get the AGX's. i know u are on a tight budget, but i saved for a couple months more and got the AGX's, plus u have the adjustability if ever wanted to change setting. IMO save a little longer.

that is the "key" to building it right.

Re: KYB GR-2 vs. Tokiko Blues (rocket256)
ive had both kyb and tokico.. my thoughts.. tokico's suck.. they didn't last more than 6 months on a teg with skunk 2's.. on comparison to my kyb's that lasted a hella lot longer on my civic with same coilovers.. i would go kyb over blues.. hell.. i would go stock over blues..

Re: KYB GR-2 vs. Tokiko Blues (Nader_D)
i have kyb agx on a talon turbo and one of the shocks is already blown after only 30k miles, and its only dropped 1.25. on my crx i have
tokico illuminas and its dropped 2.25 and they are well worth the extra money. if you want it really stiff put them on 5 but what ive noticed
that especially if you have a swapped car you need a stiffer shock for the added weight.

The KYBs also have a LIFETIME warranty, so why don't you pull that blown strut and get it replaced for free?
Also if you're going to go way over the guy's budget and suggest Tokico Illuminas, I say screw those and go straight for Koni Yellows. Tokico Illuminas suck compared to Koni Yellows - doesn't get much simpler than that.

Re: KYB GR-2 vs. Tokiko Blues (B18C5-EH2)
to sum up, tokico's struts are garbage. id go with anything before a tokico product. ive owned tokicos, kyb's, koni's, and apex n1's. of course the n1's were far superior to any but koni's came in a close second, kybs a descent third and tokicos were so shitty i cant believe i put them in the same post as the others. i say go with kyb's, and like tom said they have a lifetime waranty anyway.

Re: KYB GR-2 vs. Tokiko Blues (thrashin)
my tokiko illuminas are on par compare to my friend who has the AGX but those shocks are one notch up. i KNOW your on a strict budget but you can get AGX's online for only 305 shipped and the adjustability of the AGX's is well worth it imo.
But since you are on a budget (arent we all ) I would go with the blues since I havent heard much negatives about it and the GR-2 are pretty straight up oem replacement
just me .02$
