knocking sound
I just bought a 98 Civic Hatch not too long ago but it has been at the shop until yesterday because i was applying fat matt. When I took it out last niight for the first time it was making a weird knocking noise.
You can hear it when:
Its idling in neutral
Low RPMs in any gear, if i floor it then it kind of goes away
The noise goes away whenever i depress the clutch whether in neutral or gear.
It has 131000 miles. What could be wrong? Thanks

Re: knocking sound
Knocking or ticking?...Normally, knocking comes from the bottom end(Bearing). Ticking normally comes from the top end(incorrect valve lash). Just hope it is pinging/gas knocking or out of adjusted valves and not a lower-end bearing knock.

Re: knocking sound
I'm thinking knocking. I don't really know the difference between two. Ya I don't think it's the engine. Cuz the engine wouldn't stop knocking if clutch is depressed. I read somewhere else it's the throwout bearing. How do I check? I have access to a shop. Thanks

clutch and oil in the engine? im not a mechanic but i dont think those have anything to do with each other. There is oil though because i had the valve cover removed last week. im gonna change engine oil and transmission oil.
Anyone know where i could get a good deal on a transmission just in case the transmission is going bad?
thanks!
