knock sensor question D16Y8
ok i got question about the knock sensor on my car, i got a d16y8 and the ecu is throwin codes for knock sensor...i checked the chiltons manual and the knock sensor wire is there but only for automatic ex's. ????? the tranny is manual.
my original setup was a d16y5, then i swapped out the engine for a y8 but kept the wiring harness off the y5 and the ecu (for a couple months). i then purchased a p2p ecu off ebay, installed it and now its throwin that code for knock sensor. i bought the knock sensor and now i don't know where it needs to go or if it even belongs anywhere.
any information or help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks ahead of time

All Y8's use a knock sensor. Manual and Auto. Any P2P ecu will be looking for the knock sensor. It screws in the back of the block above the oil pressure switch.

Re: knock sensor question D16Y8 (F20Cteg)
now remember, my harness is off an hx motor, are there pre existing wires on that harness that i could use for the knock sensor? or do i have to route a wire fr the ecu to the sensor?

uh, wtf.
the knock sensor on d-series is in the lower timing cover. And yes, your y5 harness has the plug for it. Why b-series has the knock placed on the back of the block, I have no clue.
your y8 is going to run like ****, because the timing maps on the ecu are very conservative, p2p ecu sets ignition timing based off of the knock sensor feedback. (thanks Joseph Davis)

Re: knock sensor question D16Y8 (Bense)
knock sensor is on the rear of the motor
the sensor thats behind the crank in the lower timing cover is the crankshaft speed fluctuation sensor, that detects misfires.
