knock sensor help plz

PLEASE HELP knock sensor
obd1 gsr with a p72 ecu.
its throwing a code; 23; knock sensor.
my car smokes a hell of alot when i bring the rpm's up, and my vtec is pretty quiet.
searched for knock sensor problems and found nothing... thanks for anyone that can help me.
