Knock sensor, connect and zip tie somewhere else?
heya, buddy told me a little trick about the knock sensor to get my cel to dissapear for smog. I can't change it out now cus I have to smog in a week or 2, and the current sensor is broken off and jammed in the block! He said instead taking the old one out and plugging it in the block, just connect the new sensor and wrap it up in something soft, and ziptie the thing smoewhere safe so the ecu thinks it's plugged in but it's not inside the block. Now, im pretty sure that will work but I wanna know if it's safe or not. Won't the slightest vibration on the sensor retard my timing? I don't wanna damage the sensor seeing how i paid 125 bucks for it and I plan to put it back inside, but lame smog! Any thoughts? thanks enjoy ur saturday

well i bought a new one. plugging it in wont get rid of the code? why would it have to be screwed into the block for the ecu to recognize it?

the ECU reads the knock sensor constantly.
If it doesn't see a signal from the sensor it thinks there is something wrong with the sensor.
It sounds silly but in your case some knock is a good thing.

oh, yea I would normally do it that way too but it's broke off. You can't even put a wrench around it, thats why I don't want to start the project because who knows when I'll get that thing out. It's completely broke off, there is about maybe 1/4" of material sticking out

technically the knock sensor is a glorified microphone. if you can find another location to screw it into that is connected to the block directly you may be able to get it to work half way to get past emissions....
