Agreed. If you want to blow it up by all means keep doing that.

Easiest way to check.

Drain oil.

Remove header.

Remove oil pan.

Search for remnants of rod bearing in bottom.

Wiggle each rod. Clicks while wiggling=knocks while running.

well it's to late now then to save the motor. It's not my car, it's my brother's and he told me it's been like this for the last 4 months. He even told me that it's overheating sometimes.

He's giving me the car when he found a replacement. It's a 93 ex coupe ( Canada SI). The body is good no rust but it's automatic

It could be a just spun bearing with no damage to the crank or anything else. The whole motor is not necessarily a loss.

The motor will be gone by the time he's giving me the car. He's telling me by the end of march and he's driving the car everyday

Yeah, it's a knock 100 percent. A car that needs a valve adjustment will have more of a ticking sound.

Sounds like a diesel engine lol. Deff a knock not a valve lash, like said above valve lash is more of a ticking sound. Not a diesel engine lmao

well its easier to check for valve lash.
do that first if it goes away then you are lucky.
the rod knock on my car was much worse than this and i drove the car for 8 months even smashed on it few times(i did use 0w30 oil tho) once i put 5w30 the rod knock became more loud and eventually got loud enough for me to junk the engine.

my wifes y7 motor also has a rod knock which was barely notticeable with 0w30 motor oil. and again i switched to 5w30 a week or so ago and it is now much louder.

with 0w30 both motors were running smooth and i smashed on both of them with no change in rod knock afterwards.
but they leaked lots of oil so with 5w30 they dont leak as much but also do not sound as good.

she been driving the car for almost a year since i put the engine in and it already had a slight rod knock when i put it in but it never got worse still drives ok. i even beat a charger daytona in it lol and misshifted on automatic... dont ask.

anyway i think it sounds like valve lash. because my rod knocks sound much worse and they are clear knocking sound.
this sounds like some very loose valve or two.. they do get loose sometimes if they were not tightened to specs last time... burnt valve maybe?

also the easiest way to check would be to listen from the top of the engine
and then put your ear under the bumper to see if you can hear the knocking from the oil pan.
it will be obvious where its coming from once you hear both.
