iv got a 97 hatch and the down pipe on the exhaust rattles at certain rpms. i know its not the heat sheilds or anything cuz its come from under the engine. now for my question.

iv got a dohc zc exhaust manifold from my old ef and i was wondering if i could put that one with out a cat if it would be the right length to meet up with the mid pipe? i know everyones gonna say just save up for a full exhaust but i dont have the money to do that right now and if it fits i could put it on in 2 minutes at work.

i did this with a 99ex mani. and downpipe. i haven't tried anything else, but there is some play in the exhaust so if you were to measure the two and they were pretty close i'd try it.

ex mid pipe is shorter though isnt it? because of the cat being under the car and not on the exhaust manifold. thats why im asking if i just use the dohc zc manifold with no cat if it would be long/short enough to mate up with the dx mid pipe.. i forgot to mention its a dx. sorry.

your rattle is the inside pipe likely theres twin pipes on the downpipe one within the other solutions easy drill through the first pipeonly and weld the two together end result no leak rattle gone

ok, drilled about 4 or 5 holes and welded them up and it didnt work. just gonna wait it out till i get a full exhaust.

odds are the whole exhaust even past the resonator is going to be double lined. It's pretty common on Hondas a lot of times the exhaust will rattle even though there's nothing loose--the inside pipe will break loose and start to rattle and yes the manifold are also double walled as well. You pretty much have to live with it untill you get a new exhaust unless you want to rip it all apart and pull out the inner pipe.

tap the exhaust with a rubber mallet till you centralize the noise

to add two welds per couple feet is substantial and removal of the inner pipe is never necissary

im not even gonna bother and waste my time on the exhaust anymore. im just gonna buy a header and find a cat then spend some money on a used or new apexi ws2 cat back.

also. would a test pipe from my ef work on the exhaust setup i mention above? for track use of course
