Default Key question ... yes I searched

When I bought my civic, the only key I got was a crappy Wal-Mart made copy. It doesn't open the doors or hatch very well, and is pretty flimsy. I want to replace it at the dealership, and I searched and found that all I have to do is take in my title (with VIN on it) and ID for them to make a new one, but I couldn't find the answer to my question. My question is whether or not the key they are going to make for me is a Honda OEM blank, you know the one with the black head that says Honda on it, or another crappy quality blank. Thanks in advance.

Call a honda dealer.........

when i got a key made at Nissan, it was OEM

I wasnt trying to be an ***, but I find on some of these things, especially about dealerships, you get more opinions than facts. Something as simple as a key, I would just call em up.

Yes...it will look just like the one it came with when it was new. I think it's like 14 bucks...may depend on the dealership though.

Thanks for the replies. It seems a little pricey but oh well, you get what you pay for.

what walmart key did you get. I got the ones with the black head and it works great!! Not flimsy and opens both doors and the trunk with ease.

The key that came with the car when I bought it was made somewhere unknown to me. I'm really not sure where it came from, I just used Wal-Mart as a general example. The top of the key is plain metal and says Access. It's a piece of junk, just as the key I had for my Jetta made by them (Access) as well as my mom's van key.

I just called around to the four Honda dealerships in the area to see about prices. The most expensive quote I got was $6.22, the least was $5.00. They also told me to bring license, registration with VIN on it, and title just in case.

BTW you wont need all the paper work, just take your actual key in there and you should be good, they need the paper work if you lose yours and they have to look up the key code to cut you a new one

I locked my keys in my car and had to do this and the dealer gave me a copy... The key has a black head on it, but it doesn't say honda... You might have to ask special for that...
