Keeps breaking axles
i have a JRSC on a second gen b16 and broke 2 axles when i first put it in and think another is fixing to go because i am having a little vibration when accellerating. WTF? i am only running 6 lbs and have a itr throttle body, aem short ram for an Ls, Dc header, metal cat high flow cat ( ), Hks high power cat back, Hasport rear drag, energy motor mount inserts on torque mounts, msd sci w/btm. this really shouldn't be happening i don't think, my car has never had to be towed anywhere not even after i did my swap 6 yrs ago. i have had this car 10 years and it broke my winning streak by normally taking off from a stop sign and snapping an axle, then snapping one turning into my parking spot to park at work. i wonder everytime i pull off at a stop sign if i am going to have to tow it from that spot. if i snap this one should i just buy some competition engineering axles or do i have some other problem i need to look for? i do not give my car hell at all, i take alot of pride in my car and don't want it to look like crap or hear someone say i see that car all the time and the guy is always giving it hell. this really bothers me and need some opinions i have a 9lb kit waiting to be put on so i need some input

Re: Keeps breaking axles (BROKE.eg)
i know that autozone carries a lifetime warranty on there axles but they are absolutely junk!!!!!!!!!!!! if you can find any factory or even better spend the money on some aftermarket axles. you will be alot better off

i am running napa 97 gsr non remanufactured axles. it may just be tire noise that i am hearing i have crappy ecsta 711's on my car right now. and the vibration i feel many just be because my drivetrain is so solid. i chose the napa axles because they are non reman and guaranteed for life

I am taking a shot in the dark with this one but I have heard that some motor mounts promote broken axles. Maybe you should look into another set of mounts.

i know it seems like overkill but i would just invest in some aftermarket axles. it wont hurt because your gonna want to make more power later anyway so it is just some extra security. ive been through the same crap and i just had to come to terms with it. i broke three sets in one weekend

i disagree with anyone who says that autozone axles are junk. They are the best for a racer on a budget but they arent the greatest, I broke 12's on a b16 turbo hatch @14psi w/ autozone axles that never broke binded or vibrated. I was using place racing mounts if that helps

Re: (kaoss_11)
ive been deep in the 12's on stock oem axles, i nor anyone in the area has any good luck out of autozone axles. sure they are awsome for a low buck build and they have a warranty on them. but who really wants to change axles every day? i cant say a whole lot bad cause i run them in my daily driver, but for someone that is making some decent power why chance it?

i bought my axles from oreileys and took them apart after i broke the first one
the grease in the boot barely touched the bearings on the inside. yeah i think i am going to just put another one of these peices of crap back in here, i really want to get another one of these remans and put it in and replace it again in about a week.

it is pretty low but not terrible. i am currently running spax 28 way coilovers and i can get my foot under it and tilt my toe up a good bit.

Re: Keeps breaking axles (j-corleon)
Try raising your car up enough that your axles arent angled up. Sounds like your cars dumped on its nuts. I made hundreds of 1/4 mile passes on the same set of stock axles and never broke one. My car wasnt that low because I had to fit big slicks on it and the do grow a bit at 130mph. I know plenty of guys running the 20" baby slicks with their cars dumped on their nuts and they break axles all the time.

Sorry to steal a thread but it is also AXLE RELATED:
So here's the question...
If you raise the cars front and spin the wheels, how should axles behave??? Should they spin straight WITHOUT ANY UP-DOWN MOVEMENTS, or there MAY BE some up-down play...
If I spin my wheels, and watch the axle spin I can see it goes up and down a bit... does it mean the axle is BENT or is it normal...
I have no other problems... I have no vibrating issues... The car accelerates smoothly and decelerates smoothly...

i have to disagree, i went to war with these guys, over a set of b series axles they told me the vibration was all in my head, they would shake the wheel out of your hands, but another set of axles wouldnt. figure that one out. after a long war they finally bought the axles back.
i broke stock jdm type r axles in my civic on the dyno. completely grenaded the inner joint. he hee. gave Gator Glen a call and have been fine ever since. they have a warranty also.

Re: Keeps breaking axles (jdmeg9)
basically, more you lower the car the higher the chance you will break a set of axles? Also dependant on how much power your actually producing?
