Keep power steering ?
Hi ! I'm currently getting a B16A2 swap in my 93 Hatchback
My civic has AC, and I just didnt used it at all, so I removed it
But I also have the power steering.
The place where I am getting the swap done said they can put the ps, but I'm not sure If I should since it's only a civic
Any inputs ?

Only leave off the power steering if you can get hold of a NON-power steering rack. Otherwise, it's a bitch to turn that car at low speed, even though it is "just a civic"

Re: Keep power steering ? (spyder)
i said you get rid of it, as long as your not going to make a bunch of U-Turns..
and i heard you feel the road more w/o power steering and less speed wobble... wobble wobble.. :D

To turn your car into non-P/S you'll need to get the non-power steering rack and cross-member. I did this to an SI Civic and the steering is more responsive. So, I say- DO IT!

I have the ps rack in my EG and the power stuff was removed when I did my swap (same one in fact) and I like the quickness of the ps rack. it's a little dartier at highway speeds but that just makes the commute more interesting.
and nothing builds those biceps like parallel parking a non-power-assisted ps rack everyday!
It's really not that bad. If you plan on autocrossing or road course-ing, I'd keep the ps rack without the power.

You mean you would *prefer* to autocross or road race without power steering???
Talk to any high caliber (national contender) FWD autocrosser and they would say you're crazy to give up power steering. I know of two honda drivers specifically that have suffered dislocated shoulders as a result of trying to muscle a non-ps, LSD equipped Honda through an autocross course. IMO, deleting the ps due to tiny gains resulting from less "parasitic drag", or a little weight savings is pretty ridiculous considering the advantage that power steering can give you in a number of driving situations. Those advantages certainly extend beyond the autocross course.

Re: Keep power steering ? (fsp31)
depends what u want .....
comfort .. or ... a bit of that feedback from your tires ....
my civic have ps ... and i been thinking about losing all the power stuff like some of the guys mention ...
but after driving my frd 88 potiac firefly ... i think its sister car is Geo ... anyways ... wif wore out 165 wide tires ... it is a Bitch to turn at low speed ....
i need both arm cranking it to move ... ( maybe i am weak ... who knows ... )
imagine ... civic with performace tires and weight heavier then the firefly ....

When you're moving, turning the wheel without powersteering isn't a thing. I've never autocrossed WITH powersteering and I'm not by any means the physically strongest guy out there (6'1" 165lbs)
this is in a 97 civic coupe, b series motor and 215 tires, you just get used to it and enjoy the "feel" with no assistance

Re: Keep power steering ? (Phantom)
I'm running without power steering -- CX never had it. It's a track car, so I won't miss it - but when I do drive it around town, it's a PITA. So, after having both,
Track car - ditch the power steering
Daily/frequently drive - keep the power steering
trust me, that extra 5hp isn't going to make you faster since you're probably not using 100% of your car anyway, and it'll really **** you off when you're driving around down... disregard if you're drag racing your car - you need every hp you can get since you're really just matching car to car, not driver to driver.
