k20 or type r swap??
so i have js got a great deal on a ek hatch shell, and im comtemplating on what motor i should get for the shell. I've been looking into a k20 but i dont know too much about the swap and all of the parts that it cost to put in the car. On the other hand I kinda want a type r, (B16B, of B18C5) either way i am probably end up getting the motor from HMOTORSONLINE, js wanted some input on this issue thanks

alot of this is coverd in the search.
k20 and b18c5 are very close in cost. the k20 is faster stock on stock. all the info you need to do the swap is in the fourms. read up. good luck.

K20s are new engines, you can order about anything from honda and the engines are built to tigher tolerances,im not going to get into how good it is but it will cost you anywhere from 6,500-8,000 depending on which K series you get and if youu do the work yourself, its the hardest swap of all but it just takes time, not all that hard.I suggest you get a b18c5 or type r b18c because its easier to do and a little cheaper.

it all depens on what you plan to do in the futur with the car . if ur ganna mod do any crazy mods to the car after the swap then do a k series but if you plan on building a motor for turbo or nitrous then i would get a gsr

Although the motors cost about the same, all of the extras needed for the K20 like the shifter kit, etc...will cost A LOT more than what would be needed for the C5 and the like. Just like THC07 said, search both of the motors on Honda-Tech and you'll find ALL the information you'll need to make this decision correctly.
Like everyone else is saying it really comes down to how much money you're looking at spending. The Type-R's will cost a bit less than 5k usually. You'll hardly EVER see a full Kswap that cost anything CLOSE to 5k. Generally MUCH higher. However, I can also reccomend hmotorsonline for the swap. Great place to purchase these things from.
Good luck, and congrats on finding a cheap EK shell.

Do what you can afford.
How far do you want to go with it?
more info on Honda K-Series: http://www.k20a.org

Motor for motor, yes, the cost is the same. But the cost to swap in a K20 is about 5 times the cost of swapping in a B18C5.

i would rule out the b16b no question, because of no torque. other than that, how much do you want to spend on all of this? I think that's the biggest question.

Re: (Jakester9500)
the type r swap will coast you around 5gs mounts and all, a k20 swap will cost you 4or 5gs for the swap, 575 for the mounts 250 for the axles, 350 for the wire harness, and way more work. I would love to do the k swap but the fact of that matter is it's not worth it. if your just going stock. and keep in mind that k sers. parts are way more in price. then b sers. parts. good luck eather way, if money is no object then go for it.

I know if you get the motor from hmotors online then it comes with the wire harness.I am looking at getting the K20A2 from hmotorsonline. It cost 4000 for the complete change over. You will still have to get axles and header, but you cut the cost of the harness out.

i would go with the k20 if you have the money. If you think about it, well from what i've heard, you'll spend close to 8g's or so on the k20 itself. After you finish the install you'll have to consider how much $$ parts will be compared to the ITR? i personally love both motors and it would be hard to choose. But if i had the money k20, if not and you have 5gs or so go with the itr swap...

X2... if my work didnt pay me in peanuts i would save up for a k20 instead of trying to turbo a d. A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.

K24/K20A Hybrid...
Working at Skunk2 I get to see alot of High HP cars and I have moved on to the K's as a result. We see crazy HP on what I would consider a reasonable build. Once you get over the inital cost of the swap, it very simple to have one bad *** motor.
K24/ K20A2 Hybrid, rods, pistons Std. 87mm Bore and Std. Stroke, RBC manifold, throttle body, Skunk2 Stage 3 cams, Skunk2 Pro Springs, K-Pro and a good header. This combo has proven to yeild 300 HP + or - 10HP depending on the type of dyno. On the dyno we see that the motor starts to choke off at 8K, and we think that a good intake manifold or ITB set-up would lend itself to greater peak numbers... somewhere in the 315-320 range.
You cant do that w/ a B18C5 running std. bore and stroke!
Be carefull if you pull up along-side me on the streets because this is my reality!
