just put new header on, gap.....WHY!!!
i just put on a jdm 4-1 header on my gsr motor, everything went fine but the header isnt sitting flush against the block, started it up and sounds like hulk hogan and chuck norris yelling on a megaphone
wondering why it isnt flush, fits perfect in every other way, but leaking from gasket , and then i put the stock header back on and their were no leaks, should i have got a new gasket cuz i was told it is ok to reuse the old one
what could it be

Re: just put new header on, gap.....WHY!!! (Cuong-nutz)
i dont remember EXACTLY what it is called, but there is a red cylicone based product out there that you can use in place of metal gaskets. i was at Elsons this weekend getting a dumptube welded for a friend and he was explaining it to me there. he uses it on all his turbo setups between the manifold/head and flage/turbo. never leaked on him, there was a TT viper at the shop and it was used on that. so im guessing the guy knows wtf hes doing, and has 50+ years experience under his belt. anybody know what this stuff is called? its fireproof and he has usedit on all the cars he has built..anyone?

I had the same problem about 4 years ago. All you need to do loosen all of the bolts and make sure the bottom of the flange is against the head first. There is a little lip on the head that the header flange is getting caught on and giving you the gap.

1 of 2 things happened
1 YOU INSTALLED HEADER wrong!!
2 you have a b16a header....thus it is hitting the oil pan and not sealing flush on the head....
those are the only things that could be....
