Default Just Put a deposit down on a 00 SI. What should I look for when I pick it up?

Hi,
I Just put a deposit down on a 2000 Civic SI with some known problems and wanted some advice on what to look at when I go to pick it up. It has 118,000 miles. I'm planning on doing a compression test. This will be my first Honda so any and all help will be much appreciated.

The seller disclosed:
The car has a new clutch and timing belt.
That the transmission will not go into 3rd gear but all other gears work.
The upper A/C line has a leak.
The car had a minor front end collision but was repaired.

-3rd gear common problem on honda's but if third gear is completely gone the car probably been beaten on
-make sure the timing belt been replaced it has over 100k miles and must be replaced at 100k mile
-check for rust... u said it been in front end accident... i would look at suspention make ure nothing bent...make sure there no frame damage(it kinda hard to check for frame damage without taking to a body shop but should check for obvious damage...
-and most importantly check vin and make sure it a true si

3rd gear is a common problem, my civic used to grind until i put hasport mounts in it. my 08 accord 6spd still grinds sometimes, pissed me off.

I know this sounds weird but check the fuse box...make sure they are using all the correct amperage fuses in the right spots. I traded my integra for a civic...and the guy failed to tell me that he decided to put a 30A fuse in the ECU slot because everytime he put the correct 15A fuse in the slot...it would blow apart. Imagine how much fun I had tracing wires.

As mentioned, the VIN should begin with 1HGEM1. Of course check that everything operates correctly.

Make sure windows roll up and down smoothly (these cars often have window regulator issues). Check that wipers work on all settings and they park properly (park switch within wiper motor breaks, which means a new motor is needed - used about $25).

I think there's a few threads on here about common problems for this generation of Civic. You might want to check there.

Check for hacked up wiring/**** poor wire splices and missing bolts. Very common to see both interior and exterior this way. If you do run away.

Make sure EVERYTHING works. Heater, A/C, wipers, headlights (high/low beams), signals, dimmer switch, windows, etc. EVERYTHING.

Ask for any maintenance/repair receipts.

Just make sure the engine/transmission are in good shape and the body is straight and panels align properly because of the accident.

And of course check for rust!

All other problems are relatively simple to fix on these cars so I wouldn't worry to much about anything else.

The VIN he provided has 1HGEM1 and has a clean car fax.
I'm buying it for $2500.00.
Thanks for all the great info guys!

make sure the car spins its tires 1st and 2nd gear. Check all the vin #'s and make sure they allmatch. Make sure the engine is the EM1 engine(b16A2). Make sure all the electrical stuff works. you also said that it was in a wreck, make sure the frame isnt bent any where, and check the radiator support, also make sure everything aligns right.

Coat the tires in oil. Works like a charm.

Sounds like a good deal as long as it isn't totally dogged. People have mentioned most of the stuff on here to check. Look around the engine for oil that may be coming out through bad gaskets.
