just picked up a 96 coupe, few strange things..
well i just got a 96 ex coupe, i had a few questions
1 - its a ex, but its not a vtec engine, atleast the valve cover dont say so, is this not the original engine? i thought all ex civic had the vtec. not that it matter a whole lot..
2- do some models come with factory wood grain trim? (looks gay)
3 - do some come with factory leather or are these skins?

1 - Just because it doesn't SAY VTEC doesn't mean it isn't... look for the VTEC solenoid. Im sure it has it. Engine code should be D16Y8 i believe?
2 - No, they didn't ever come with woodgrain. Its probably an aftermarket kit you can peel off.
3 - Some Civic's did have the option for leather, you may be one of the lucky ones.
Pics would help here too.

Y8 valve covers just say HONDA, look down at the block for the engine code, should be D16Y8. Since you have woodgrain I highly doubt that the engine was swapped.
Like the others said, one option was leather. Not many around with this option though, good find! Just take that ghey woodgrain out.

All D series 96-00 valve covers are the same. I have a 00 EX, and it just says Honda on the valve cover.
There was no options for wood grain or leather on civics, but dealers have been known to install such things, or send them to shops that do when a car is purchased.

I think some came with this has an option. And check your engine code, that will give you a for sure answer. If the car has it's stock engine, the engine code will be 'd16y8'.

Go look on the front of the engine block and tell us what the engine code is. its on the left side it should be d16y7 or d16y8

I saw this Canadian EK ferio day and I noticed that it had full leather interior. It looked stock to me, but it could've been re-wrapped. Some middle-aged guy was driving it.

When I was looking at new cars a while back, one dealership had a civic with leather seats, and listed them as an 'option'. It may be an option, but not from the factory; and there were no OEM dealer accessories (like fogs, lips etc.) for leather seats. They were most definitely re-wrapped.

the only civic i have seen with leather interior is the se (special edition). My mom bought one and it came with 15 inch prime time rims . I dont know if the factory make it special edition, (it has all gold trim on the outside and its a 4 door ek) or it came like that from honda

Re: (JDM-EJ1)
they did have some SE's later on like 99-00 4dr's you can tell because they don't have a model badge on the back.
Also there was NO leather OR woodgrain from the factory.
It's all dealer installed or aftermarket. And to those that say it doesn't look rewrapped so it has to be OEM they need to open their eyes... If you go to a good upholestry shop it'll look OEM.

Don't go by what the valve cover says. Look for the VTEC solenoid, or the engine code. That's going to help you the most.
