Default Just installed Water Temp. Gauge, but having some problems?

Hey everyone, just like it says, I've just installed an Auto meter Water temp. gauge in my jdm b18c. After doing some searching, I decided to Tee into a coolant line instead of drilling and taping into the thermostat housing. The line that I Tee'd into was the coolant line from the upper radiator hose housing that goes to the throttle body. I drained all the coolant and took the line out and cut and put my Tee with my sending unit in. Then I started the car, and let the temp gauge on the cluster rise to normal running temp. but the After-market gauge didn't change it's readings at all. Once the car started the needle rose off it's post and sat right under 100 degres and didn't move any more after that untill I cut the car off, and the needle dropped back to the post. My main concern is, did I Tee into a line that will give me a temp reading? Any help would be appreciated TIA

the most accurate place to put the temp sensor would be the upper radiator hose

where on the housing did you put the sending unit? Did you have to drill and tap or what? just wondering, Im not exactly sure why mine is not picking up a signal, I've checked every wire and ground, all are good, the last thing to do is relocate the sensor...
thanks for all the help, more if possible
