You're supposed to "fix it". Get re-registered with a quieter exhaust, then put the old one back on, or...........just dont have a can full of bees for an exhaust?

not guaranteed to pass, no
chances are, you need a completely different muffler/axle back to pass the test.
(If you still have your stock end section, just have a shop expand the flange to fit the apexi's bpipe and test w/ the stock rear section)

Re: just got a fix it ticket. (beat_nut)
I would try a silencer first, what's the worst that can happen, you fail and you are out the 5-10 dollars you spent on the silencer, or hell you could even return it for a full refund hehe.
Personally I think fix it tickets for exhaust are ultra gay - I used to live in Wisconsin. Anyone ever hear a HARLEY go by? Those ******* are way louder than my Thermal Exhaust
It's a decibal reading, whats the worst that can happen?

Re: just got a fix it ticket. (beat_nut)
i got a loud exhaust ticket, so i went to the court date and talked to the prosecuting attorney and she made a deal with me that if i fixed it and went to the police dept. that they would drop the fine. so i put a stock exhaust on, went to the cop shop and had them sign off on it, went back and visited the prosecuting attorney, and put my other exhaust back on. kind of a pain in the *** but saved me some money.

they wouldnt even test mine, they would rather drop the ticket than go thru the hassle of testing it here in MN. i went to a local sound shop and they said that in order to get an accurate test you have to go out in the middle of no-where so there is nothing for any sound to echo off. plus there isnt even a decibel level here in MN, the law states that it cant "crack or echo".

Take it to the ref, see if itll pass or not. If you fail with a silencer then:

And yes, you could retake the test and its free.
Edit: Also i noticed that most of the guys that posted on here dont live in cali. So sorry to say this there posts dont mean didaly because there not in cali, sorry guys. Cali car laws are the worst in the states.

haha... that's exactly what I did back when I had my EK w/ the Apexi N1.
Anyway...
I live in SD too. I don't know what the exact law is on fix-it ticket repairs...but when I got ticketed for my Apexi N1, I threw on the silencer. I just took it to the neighborhood PD (and I heard you can actually just flag down any random police officer who doesn't have anything better to do), the officer just sitting in the lobby just came out, told me to start my car, rev it up. In his opinion, it was quiet enough so he signed the back of the fix-it ticket as "inspected by" (or something) and that was it.
I think it depends on the cop who inspects it in some cases..

Re: just got a fix it ticket. (syntax_error)
You can buy Apexi's for 39.95 or Ebay sells them for 15.00 - 20.00
Hell if you do fabrication you could make your own silencer. Otherwise spend the money, use it, return it. It's as simple as that.

Re: just got a fix it ticket. (beat_nut)
i wonder what would happen if you programmed your ecu to redline at 3000 rpm, or put in a gauge cluster for some weak civic, so the redline is lower. it would be funny watching them try to floor it and it bounce off 3000.

They dont floor it, they check the motor and see what it is and then look up there book and see where 45% of the rev limit is and then theyll hold it there.
